“Gheorghe Lazăr” National College ranks first in Bucharest by the average grade obtained at the 2026 Baccalaureate, according to data published by the BacPlus platform. The high school has an average grade of 9.48, a pass rate of 99.6%, and 269 students included in this year’s exam statistics.

The ranking is based on the initial 2026 Baccalaureate results, before appeals. The BacPlus platform states on its page dedicated to Bucharest that the 2026 Baccalaureate results were added before appeals, which means that the hierarchy may change after the final results are published.

At national level, Bucharest ranks second. “Gheorghe Lazăr” National College is the second-best high school in the country by the 2026 Baccalaureate average, immediately after “Emil Racoviță” National College in Cluj-Napoca, which has an average of 9.49. The information also appears in the analysis published by EduPedu, based on BacPlus data, where it is specified that the results are those recorded before appeals.

What the BacPlus ranking shows for Bucharest

The top positions in Bucharest are dominated by traditional national colleges, the same names that frequently appear in admission rankings: “Gheorghe Lazăr”, “Sfântul Sava”, “Tudor Vianu”, “Spiru Haret”, “George Coșbuc” and “Grigore Moisil”. All six high schools have averages above 9.18 at the 2026 Baccalaureate.

The differences at the top of the ranking are significant, but not huge. “Gheorghe Lazăr” National College leads with 9.48, followed by “Sfântul Sava” National College, with 9.40, and “Tudor Vianu” National College of Computer Science, with 9.31. All three high schools had very high 2025 admission averages, above 9.60, according to data aggregated by BacPlus.

A relevant detail is that the ranking includes both large public high schools, with hundreds of candidates, and schools with a much smaller number of students. For example, the Laude-Reut Educational Complex ranks 7th, with an average of 9.16 and 41 students, while “Sfinții Trei Ierarhi” Theoretical High School ranks 8th, with an average of 9.07 and 6 students.

The data below is taken from the ranking published by BacPlus for Bucharest and includes the 2026 Baccalaureate average, the 2025 admission average, the pass rate and the number of students taken into account for the 2026 exam.

The ranking should be read as a snapshot of the initial results, not as a final hierarchy. After appeals, some averages may change, and the positions of high schools with very close scores may also shift.

Bucharest high schools that entered the national ranking

Bucharest has several high schools among the top national positions by the 2026 Baccalaureate average. “Gheorghe Lazăr” National College ranks second in the country, with an average of 9.48, after “Emil Racoviță” National College in Cluj-Napoca, which has an average of 9.49.

“Sfântul Sava” National College ranks 5th nationally, with an average of 9.40, while “Tudor Vianu” National College of Computer Science is ranked 7th, with an average of 9.31. “Spiru Haret” National College is also included in the national top, with an average of 9.26.

These results confirm the strong position of Bucharest high schools in the national hierarchy. However, this year the national first place no longer belongs to the capital, but to Cluj, through “Emil Racoviță” National College, which shows a very close competition between the country’s major educational centres.

How the ranking should be read correctly

A ranking based on the Baccalaureate average is an important indicator, but it does not tell the entire story of a high school on its own. The final average depends on the level of the graduating class, the number of candidates, the existing academic tracks, internal standards and the way students were prepared for the exam.

For example, a high school with 250–290 candidates and a very high average represents a different scale of performance compared to a school with 6, 9 or 14 students. Both results can be very good, but they must be interpreted in context. That is why, for parents and students, the Baccalaureate average should be viewed together with the pass rate, the number of candidates, the admission average and the school’s academic tracks.

The pass rate is another important benchmark. Several high schools in the top 30 have a 100% pass rate, including “Sfântul Sava”, “Tudor Vianu”, “Grigore Moisil”, “Ion Creangă”, Laude-Reut, “Sfinții Trei Ierarhi”, “Anastasia Popescu” Pedagogical High School, Ioanid, the European School of Bucharest, “Nicolae Steinhardt”, Școala Mea and Mihai Ionescu Theoretical High School.

For students who are about to choose a high school, the ranking can be a useful reference, but it should not be the only criterion. The right academic track, distance from home, teaching style, academic pressure, extracurricular activities and the way the school supports student development matter as well, not only the final Baccalaureate result.

What happens after appeals

The results presented are the initial ones, before appeals. After the appeals are resolved, averages may change, and for high schools separated by small score differences, some positions may shift. The BacPlus platform explicitly marks that the 2026 Baccalaureate results were added before appeals.

Gheorghe Lazăr National College in Bucharest, a brief history. It was relocated during the Stalinist period, but managed to preserve the “Lăzărist” spirit

For Bucharest, however, the top positions are clear enough at this stage: “Gheorghe Lazăr”, “Sfântul Sava” and “Tudor Vianu” form the capital’s podium by the 2026 Baccalaureate average. They are followed by “Spiru Haret”, “George Coșbuc” and “Grigore Moisil”, all with averages above 9.

The final ranking may confirm or adjust these positions, but the initial results already show a solid performance by Bucharest high schools. The capital remains one of Romania’s strongest educational centres, even though the 2026 national first place goes, this time, to Cluj-Napoca.
