Despite its reputation as a crowded city, Bucharest offers numerous green spaces dedicated to relaxation, movement, and play. Whether it's a peaceful walk, an afternoon on roller skates, or a nature escape right in the heart of the capital, parents have plenty of options. We’ve selected 20 parks in Bucharest that provide a wide range of facilities for children and parents alike: from modern playgrounds to summer theaters, bike paths, lakes, and themed gardens.

Most of these parks are well-maintained, accessible, and include educational or recreational elements, making them popular meeting spots for families from all city districts. Regardless of your child’s age or the season, parks can be a healthy and affordable way to spend your free time.

Parks with history and extensive facilities

One of the largest and most popular parks is IOR Park (Alexandru Ioan Cuza) in Sector 3. With a lake featuring five islands and a wooden church in Maramureș style, this park is a magnet for families. The playgrounds are spacious, and the wide alleys are perfect for bikes and scooters.

Carol I Park, inaugurated in 1906, impresses with its historical atmosphere and monuments: the Mausoleum, Zodiac Fountain, and Vlad Țepeș Tower. At the same time, the shaded paths and play areas offer fun for kids and relaxation for adults.

In Sector 4, Children’s World Park near the Children’s Palace is almost a theme park. It features story-inspired playgrounds, a karting track, and spectacular fountains. It’s an ideal spot for hot summer days as well as year-round strolls.

Drumul Taberei Park, recently modernized, includes a miniature botanical garden, a lake with a fountain, an open-air theater, and plenty of green areas. It’s especially appreciated by parents from Sector 6 due to its peaceful atmosphere and modern infrastructure.

Herăstrău Park (King Michael I) is another highlight of the capital. Here, families can rent boats, visit the Japanese Garden, or join various outdoor events. Spanning 187 hectares, it’s a top weekend destination.

Parks ideal for play and outdoor education

In the north of the city, Bazilescu Park is a favorite thanks not only to its lush vegetation but also to the activities hosted by the Children's Club. From foreign languages to rhythmic gymnastics, parents can combine outdoor fun with their kids’ personal development.

State Circus Park, in Sector 2, stands out with its lotus-covered lake and unique sculptures. It includes several playgrounds, sports areas, and a special atmosphere due to its proximity to the Metropolitan Circus.

Another standout is Tei Park, with decorative elements inspired by Romanian fairy tales. Children can see characters like Făt-Frumos or the Iele in a storybook setting. The amusement area—with roller coaster, bumper cars, and carousel—turns a visit into a true adventure.

Morilor Park, in the Pantelimon neighborhood, is a pleasant surprise for families living in the city’s east. With a lake, bridges, ducks, and large play areas, it’s a great spot for an afternoon outing.

Cișmigiu Park, the oldest in Bucharest, remains a charming place. Located in the city center, it offers boats in summer, an ice rink in winter, and a stroller-friendly path. It also includes a chess area and a playground adapted for young children.

Green spaces for adventure and movement in nature

Văcărești Natural Park, also known as the "Delta of Bucharest", offers a completely different experience. Parents can organize educational walks along its trails, and kids can observe birds, frogs, and other wildlife. It’s the perfect weekend picnic spot for real nature experiences without leaving the city.

Tineretului Park is the largest park in Bucharest, with numerous paths, sports fields, and a lake with rowboats. Located near the Polyvalent Hall, it offers quick access to a variety of activities and events for children.

National Park (formerly 23 August) rounds out the list with its playgrounds, a lake with a fountain, and many paths ideal for walking or biking.

Băneasa Forest Park, in the north, is perfect for families who want to combine play with outdoor exercise. You can go biking, have a picnic, or simply enjoy an hour of peace among the trees. The nearby Zoo makes the adventure last even longer.

Other family-friendly parks worth visiting

Here are more excellent parks for family outings:

  • Izvor Park, near the Parliament Palace, is perfect for rollerblading and biking.
  • Kiseleff Park, elegant and statue-filled, is a quiet corner in the heart of the city.
  • Plumbuita Park, located on the shore of the lake with the same name, offers a blend of nature, history, and relaxation.
  • Bordei Park, charming and peaceful, is ideal for a stroller walk or a quiet reading break.
  • Icoanei Garden, recently revamped, provides a relaxing setting with modern play areas and abundant greenery.

Parks in Bucharest are more than just green spaces. They’re true community hubs where children learn, have fun, and grow, while parents can recharge. Each sector has at least one or two parks worth visiting. Whether you prefer the wild nature of Văcărești, the adventures of Tei, or the classic charm of Cișmigiu, Bucharest offers a remarkable variety of options for active families.
