"Vacation at the Museum 2025": Educational Workshops for Children and Teens at MNAR

Educational workshops under the theme "Vacation at the Museum 2025", designed for children and teenagers aged 6–14, are being organized at the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR) through early August.
Now in its fourth edition, this series of practical and relaxing educational programs offers young visitors the chance to explore MNAR’s artistic heritage and develop new skills through engaging, creative activities.
The workshops are built around MNAR’s permanent exhibitions and the garden of the Theodor Pallady Museum – Melik House. They are created in collaboration with museum partners and coordinated by Daniela Mișcov (AtelierD Association) and Ioana Ciuștea (Șnur S.R.L.), both experienced specialists in artistic education.
Workshop Series: “The Secret Garden”
Location: Theodor Pallady Museum, 22 Spătarului Street
This program, offered by Artelier D Association, invites children to discover the nighttime secrets of the garden, birds, trees, and bees, drawing inspiration from their own observations, famous paintings, legends, fairy tales, poems, and science books.
Each workshop begins with a guided exploration of the garden at the Theodor Pallady Museum – Melik House, focusing on themes such as flowers, birds, trees, or insects.
The program is aimed at children aged 6–10 and encourages fine motor skills development and ecological awareness.
The Trees of Cities Around the World
Sunday, July 13 at 11:00 AM
Participants will take part in a quiz inspired by Nicolae Tonitza’s painting The Forester’s Daughter. They will view a photo montage of famous urban trees from around the world and from Bucharest, including those in the museum’s garden. Inspired by Peter Wohlleben’s book Can You Hear the Trees Talking?, they will discuss the role of trees in cities and create a leaf-themed bookmark using ink and watercolor.

The Beehive
Sunday, July 20 at 11:00 AM
Children will explore summer symbols in the paintings of Ion Țuculescu through a puzzle activity. They will also read and discuss verses about bees from Tudor Arghezi’s poetry volume "The Beehive", and talk about the current situation of bees and how to protect them. The session will end with creating a bee-themed watercolor painting.

Workshop Series: “Romanian and European Heritage”
Location: Main MNAR building, 49–53 Calea Victoriei
Offered by Șnur S.R.L., these creative and educational workshops are designed for children aged 7–14 and focus on exploring some of the most important figures in Romanian and European art—including Tintoretto, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Constantin Brâncuși, Irina Codreanu, Milița Petrașcu, and Arthur Segal. Through interactive sessions, children will develop visual analysis, artistic skills, and knowledge about nature and symbolism in art.
The Bird Hidden in Stone – Constantin Brâncuși
Fridays: July 11, July 25, August 1 – 10:00 AM
A visual journey into the world of sculpture, focusing on Brâncuși’s early works housed in the Modern Romanian Art Gallery. Participants will learn about sculptural techniques, materials, symmetry, and the concept of modernism in art. The session concludes with a sensory workshop where children explore optical illusion and build tactile models inspired by what they saw in the gallery.

- Treasure Hunt – Garden of Eden
Saturdays: July 12, July 26, August 2 – 11:00 AM
This workshop takes the form of a treasure hunt in the European Art Gallery, where children will discover famous paintings featuring animals and plants. Inspired by works such as The Annunciation (Tintoretto), Bouquet of Flowers (Brueghel), and Flowers in a Grotto (Abraham Mignon), they will create their own artworks on the theme of the Garden of Eden. The session includes stories from Genesis and discussions about flora and fauna symbolism.

Pointillism in Art
Saturdays: July 12, July 26, August 2 – 1:00 PM
Inspired by Arthur Segal’s pointillist works displayed in the Modern Romanian Art Gallery, this workshop introduces children to Pointillism as an art movement and the divisionist technique, which involves breaking down color and light into countless dots of pure pigment, creating a mosaic-like impression.
Children will start by sketching in pencil, choosing a color palette, and then move on to applying color using pointillist methods studied during the session.
