If you love to relax in nature, in peace and quiet, admiring wildlife such as birds and fish, then you'll certainly agree with us when we say that the Delta is one of the best places to do it. And no, we're not inviting you to the Danube Delta (although it's beautiful there too!), but we're suggesting a closer alternative to Bucharest: The Neajlov Delta!

Located only 35 kilometers from the capital, in the Comana Natural Park, in Giurgiu County, the Neajlov Delta (or Balta Comana) is one of the most beautiful and less known natural areas in Romania, being a true paradise for nature lovers and wildlife watching enthusiasts.

As Romania's second largest delta in terms of biodiversity, the Neajlov Delta is home to 141 bird species, 31 mammal species and 1250 plant species. Of all bird species, half are internationally protected, and of the fish species, two are found only in the area - the common sandgrouse and the Comana cleaner.

The Neajlov Delta is a truly enchanting place, blessed by nature, covering an area of 1206.4 hectares, of which 400 hectares are permanent water shallows where extremely beautiful birds take shelter.

The main attraction of the Neajlov Delta is its picturesque landscape, dominated by the tranquil waters of the Neajlov River and the lush vegetation surrounding it. Here, visitors can explore the river meanders by kayak or boat, admiring the natural beauty of the area and observing an impressive variety of bird, plant and wildlife species.

Among the most remarkable bird species found in the Neajlov Delta are the grey heron, summer swan, great cormorant and common duck. If you wander through the delta's canals, you're bound to come across a night heron sitting motionless on its hunting grounds. The area is also home to numerous species of fish, amphibians and mammals such as salmon, pike, turtles and foxes.

In addition to the rich fauna and flora, the Neajlov Delta also offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and camping. The Neajlov Delta is also an ideal destination for sport fishing enthusiasts, whether they are fishing just to catch and release their catch or to eat it. There are gazebos for rest and relaxation in the park.

However, it is important to respect the environment and protect the natural habitat of this fragile area. The Neajlov Delta is not only a natural jewel but also an important biodiversity conservation area. Efforts to protect this area are crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and preserving its fragile habitat. By promoting responsible tourism and respecting environmental rules, we can help preserve this beautiful region for future generations.

How else to spend your time at Comana

COMANA Adventure Park

Just a stone's throw from the delta is the Comana Adventure Park, ideal for kids who want to climb the tree trails and zip zip across the lake. What's more, there's a climbing wall inside the adventure park. You'll also find a wagon tractor that can take you to see the area from the shore. From the pier you can take the boat for a ride on the water. The trip doesn't take long because the water is usually low in summer, but that doesn't make the ride any less enjoyable and relaxing.

Kayaking in the Neajlov Delta

You can kayak into hidden places where motor boats can't reach. Connect with nature in peace and quiet with your loved ones.
