Rooftop bars in Bucharest: 8 places worth catching the sunset

In summer, Bucharest slowly winds down toward evening. Traffic eases, the air becomes more breathable, and the city shifts pace. Seen from above, it even seems more coherent. More and more bars and restaurants are turning to rooftops as an alternative to the noise and crowding at street level. Not all of them succeed. We've selected eight venues that offer more than just a view — they deliver a well-rounded experience, worth trying and even revisiting.

1. Linea / Closer to the Moon

Located atop the former Fashion House building, Linea offers one of the widest views over central Bucharest. It’s an established spot, attracting a mixed crowd: from tourists to office workers ending their day. The minimalist design and efficient use of space allow for a decent level of comfort, even on busy evenings. The city lights and the contrasting architecture of the Old Town create a striking urban backdrop.

2. DESCHIS Gastrobar

Set on the rooftop of an old industrial building in Timpuri Noi, DESCHIS relies on a less conventional atmosphere. The large open space, simple furniture, and raw design emphasize a sense of freedom and informality. It attracts people looking for a real break, not just a social performance. Music is present but not intrusive, and the crowd is largely local, drawn by the place’s authenticity.

3. Amethyst Sky Bar

Located on the 12th floor of Union Plaza Hotel, Amethyst stands out through discretion. It’s not an obvious destination, which makes it all the more relevant. The terrace is clean, quiet, and well-oriented for sunset. It's suited for low-key meetings or peaceful evenings, with a focus on comfort and privacy.

4. ARIA TNB

On the roof of the National Theatre, ARIA provides a central, panoramic view over University Square and the surrounding cityscape. The space is generous and laid out to keep a functional distance between tables. Despite its ultra-central location, the terrace maintains a controlled atmosphere — no excess noise or visual clutter. Service is prompt, and the drink selection is varied without becoming pretentious.

5. Balkon Resto Garden

Near Piața Romană, Balkon sits between an urban rooftop and a suspended garden. Lush vegetation and thoughtful layout give the place a balanced, easygoing feel — far from the commercial styling of many similar venues. It’s a fitting place for informal dinners or work meetings that extend past office hours. The view may not be dramatic, but it makes up for it with quiet and visual comfort.

6. Savart Restaurant & Rooftop

Savart is a discreet rooftop located near the Romanian Athenaeum, in an area where the city’s pace begins to slow down. The terrace is small but well-organized, with thoughtful decor and a calm atmosphere. It’s not a place for crowds, but for relaxed dinners or slow-paced conversations. The menu focuses on contemporary cuisine, and the service is attentive without being overbearing. The crowd tends to be more mature, and the sunset — filtered through the nearby historic buildings — offers a quiet, refined backdrop.

7. NOMAD Skybar

Right in the heart of the Old Town, NOMAD is among the city’s most active rooftop bars. It caters to a younger audience, familiar with the rhythms of urban nightlife and socializing in open-air settings. Early in the evening, it can be a solid choice for a drink with a view — but after dark, it becomes much livelier, with louder music and a faster tempo.

8. NOR – Sky Casual Restaurant

On the 36th floor of SkyTower, NOR offers an unmatched panoramic view of Bucharest — from the northern outskirts to the southeastern edge. It’s an obvious choice for those seeking visual spectacle. The experience is slightly more formal, in line with its setting in a corporate tower. The menu is refined, prices reflect the location, and the overall atmosphere stays elegant without feeling stiff.

Rooftop bars in Bucharest are no longer a novelty, but few offer more than a photo opportunity. The venues listed here succeed in turning a good view into a coherent setting — whether for relaxing, socializing, or quietly ending a long day. In a noisy city, sometimes going up a few floors is enough to see it differently.
