“The Art of the Game (TAG)” – the first large-scale cultural event in Romania dedicated to video games and related arts – will open on November 8 at ARCUB–Hanul Gabroveni.
The exhibition offers a curatorial exploration of the global phenomenon of gaming beyond entertainment, highlighting its artistic, educational, social, and technological dimensions.
Curated by Elvira Lupșa, producer and cultural project initiator, the event runs from November 8 2025 to March 1 2026, turning Bucharest into a meeting point for artists, game creators, educators, developers, parents, and the general public.
The exhibition presents an interactive, multisensory journey through the world of video games and their associated arts — from comic books and retro consoles to indie creations and contemporary multimedia installations.“TAG is our invitation to explore the universe of video games — a space where art, technology, and curiosity meet. It’s a new step for ARCUB, opening even more toward younger audiences and the new forms of creativity that shape today’s imagination. We want Hanul Gabroveni to become, throughout the exhibition, a living workshop of ideas and visual stories where creators, players, educators, parents, and children discover how video games can be an artistic expression, a learning resource, and a dialogue space between generations,” said Mihaela Păun, ARCUB Director.
“There is an unprecedented global excitement around video games. They are no longer seen solely as part of the entertainment industry but as a major cultural force. I believe they are today’s most relevant creative and collaborative space. The transformations of recent years inspired me to launch TAG, to create in Romania a dialogue about video games as both medium and cultural vector — and about their connection with other art forms. I invited educators, community builders, artists, collectors, and VR specialists to bring different perspectives and to recreate, inside the exhibition, the type of space that games usually offer virtually — connecting creators, players, and the public,” added Elvira Lupșa, curator of TAG.
At its core, “The Art of the Game” aims to bridge creative communities that rarely meet, changing the public perception of gaming in Romania. The exhibition is designed for both experienced gamers and newcomers, offering an inclusive, exploratory space.
What TAG is: a four-step experience
TAG is more than an exhibition — it’s an immersive four-stage journey through the essence of gaming, from arcade nostalgia to contemporary artistic expression.
1. Discover – a dive into the visual and creative culture of games: comics, music, illustrations, and digital art interwoven with iconic gaming stories.
2. Play – hands-on interaction: retro titles, modern consoles, indie projects, and experimental art games invite direct participation.
3. Learn – behind-the-scenes insight into game creation: concept art, sound design, world-building, and gameplay mechanics, explained clearly for all ages and backgrounds.
4. Immerse – large-scale art installations, virtual-reality experiences, and themed environments that activate all senses and expand perception of this evolving universe.
