ARCUB Gabroveni

By Bucharest Team

  • LOCATION

In a city where historic buildings are often left to decay or repurposed without vision, ARCUB Gabroveni stands out as a rare example of meaningful restoration. Housed in a fully renovated 18th-century inn, it now serves as a multidisciplinary cultural hub in the heart of Bucharest’s Old Town. Operated by ARCUB (the Cultural Center of Bucharest Municipality), the venue hosts film screenings, theater performances, exhibitions, festivals, and workshops—sometimes all happening simultaneously across its three event halls: Sala Mare, Sala Studio, and Sala Lipscani.

It’s one of the few venues in the city where independent and international cultural events have access to professional infrastructure without being part of a commercial network. With restored arches, exposed brick, and a minimalist interior, the space offers a contemporary setting that still honors its historical context. Programming is diverse and dynamic: from documentaries and contemporary dance to urban photography exhibitions and live jazz. Regular events include UrbanEye Film Festival, Bucharest International Dance Film Festival, and White Night of the Galleries, among many others.

ARCUB Gabroveni isn’t a traditional cinema, but it is one of the most active alternative screening spaces in Bucharest, where film, performance, and public engagement intersect naturally in an increasingly fragmented cultural landscape.

How to get there: ARCUB Gabroveni is located at 84–90 Lipscani Street, in Bucharest’s Old Town. Easily accessible via metro – Universitate station (M2) or Piața Unirii (M1/M3), followed by a short 5–10 minute walk. Public transport: buses 104, 123, 124, 385, or trams 16 and 21 (Sf. Gheorghe stop).
