On Friday, Bucharest City Hall announced the temporary closure of the city's Zoo due to damage caused by Thursday’s severe storm. The closure is necessary to allow for the removal of fallen trees and the repair of fences.

“The Bucharest City Hall informs that, following the extreme weather conditions on July 17, 2025, Bucharest Zoo has sustained significant damage. As a result, it will be temporarily closed from July 18 to July 20 (inclusive) to allow for safety and repair work,” the municipality stated.

Authorities confirmed that all animals are safe and are being continuously monitored by specialized staff.

Efforts are underway to clear fallen trees blocking pathways and access roads, repair damaged protective fences and shelters, and restore the zoo to safe visiting conditions.

City Hall also announced that the zoo will reopen to the public as soon as safety conditions allow.

The powerful storm swept through Bucharest and Ilfov County on Thursday, prompting a red weather alert.

A woman died in Otopeni after the roof of a nearby building collapsed onto her home.

In Bucharest, several trees fell onto roads, and two people were taken to the hospital after being struck by falling branches.
