Dog and cat lovers are invited to celebrate World Animal Day at an adoption fair taking place this Friday on the lawn of the "Grigore Antipa" National Museum of Natural History.

“We hope that every visitor leaves with a furry companion – healthy, microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated and, depending on age, sterilized,” museum representatives said in a press release.

On the museum’s front lawn, the Romanian Gendarmerie will hold canine and equestrian training demonstrations.

Children will also have their own creative area, where they can express their artistic skills through drawing and coloring, bringing their favorite animals to life on paper.

Schedule of activities:

  • 10:00 – 19:00 – Free access to the permanent exhibition
  • 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00 – Environmental workshops run by the Urban Ecology Service of the Environmental Directorate
  • 10:00 – 17:00 – Treasure Hunt “Start Your DinoAdventure” in the museum’s permanent exhibition
  • 10:00 – 17:00 – Animal-themed drawing and coloring activities
  • 10:00 – 15:00 – Dog and cat adoption fair on the museum lawn
  • 11:00 – 16:00 – Canine and equestrian demonstrations by the Romanian Gendarmerie’s canine and equestrian units

Registrations for the environmental workshops can be made via email to the Environmental Directorate – Urban Ecology Service.

All outdoor activities will take place only in favorable weather conditions.

World Animal Day was established in 1931, following a convention of ecologists in Florence, with the aim of raising awareness about the alarming increase in endangered animal species. Today, it serves as a reminder of the vital role animals play both in nature and in human life.

This event is more than a one-time project — it’s becoming a tradition, now reaching its third edition. Through thematic presentations, visual campaigns, and educational activities, the project highlights the essential role animals play in our world: unconditional love, joy, balance, and the hope for a life lived in harmony with nature.
