Romania's National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a weather advisory on Sunday, August 2, covering the capital through Thursday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. Temperatures climb day by day this week, pushing the city into a severe heat wave with high thermal discomfort and the summer's first tropical nights.

Sunday and Monday: hot, but manageable

For August 2-3, ANM forecasts highs around 34°C. The temperature-humidity index will hit the critical threshold of 80 units, skies stay mostly clear, and winds remain light to moderate. Nights still offer a brief break from the heat, with lows dropping to 16-19°C.

From Tuesday, the city moves into severe heat wave territory

Starting August 4, the hot air mass intensifies. Highs climb to 35-36°C, and Bucharest sees its first tropical night of this stretch, with lows staying above 20°C in the urban core. In the surrounding suburbs, where buildings don't trap heat the way the city center does, nighttime readings sit closer to 17°C.

Wednesday marks the peak of the heat wave

The toughest day of the whole period is Wednesday, August 6. Highs reach 36-38°C in the shade, and nighttime brings no relief either: lows stay between 20 and 21°C, a second straight tropical night. Skies turn temporarily overcast during the day and clear up by evening, with winds staying light to moderate.

According to Romania's National Meteorological Administration, "the weather will remain hot in Bucharest," and the temperature-humidity index will stay above the critical threshold of 80 units throughout the period.

What forecasters recommend

Avoid direct sun during peak hours, drink enough fluids, and save any intense physical effort for early morning or late evening, especially on the days when highs reach 38°C. The ANM advisory covers the full August 2-6 window and comes as a broader heat wave grips much of the country: the west, southwest, central, and northern regions are already seeing extreme temperatures, and from August 4 the heat wave spreads into the south and east, where the capital sits.
