Turkish medical group Medicana opens a representative office in Romania and announces that Ana Herkmen will lead its operations in the country. The group also plans to open a hospital in Bucharest by 2028.
“After 15 years dedicated to developing one of the most reputable Turkish hospital brands in Romania, Ana Herkmen begins a new professional chapter, taking over the management of Medicana Health Group’s Romanian representative office — one of Turkey’s leading medical groups, with 19 multidisciplinary hospitals in Turkey and Europe and ambitious plans for the Romanian market,” the group announced.
Medicana operates internationally accredited hospitals and maintains a high standard of innovative medical treatments. Each year, the group treats over 5 million patients, approximately 500,000 of whom are international, coming from Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
“This step is not just a professional change but a personal mission. I am joining a project that reflects my values and carries a long-term vision. The group’s commitment to opening its own hospital in Romania within the next three years was a decisive factor for me. I strongly believe in sustainable presence and in building a medical bridge founded on excellence and genuine closeness to the patient,” said Ana Herkmen.
Within its network, Medicana has centers of excellence in oncology, organ and stem cell transplantation, cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, neurosciences, orthopedics and traumatology, reproductive medicine, and robotic surgery.
The Bone Marrow Transplant Center at Medicana International Ankara ranks first in Turkey and among the top three in Europe, with around 1,500 transplants performed. Likewise, the CyberKnife Radiosurgery Center in Ankara is ranked number one worldwide, having carried out over 10,000 ultra-precise interventions, with an accuracy of under one millimeter.
“In Romania, the group’s objective is to open a hospital in Bucharest by 2028. Until the inauguration, it will coordinate Romanian cases through Medicana’s facilities in Turkey, providing patient navigation, fast scheduling, and comprehensive treatment packages. With Ana Herkmen leading operations in Romania, the group aims to steadily expand its market presence, offer personalized support to Romanian patients seeking treatment in Turkey, and lay the foundation for the future Bucharest medical center. The next steps will include public medical programs, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships,” the statement adds.
Founded in 1992, Medicana Health Group is one of Turkey’s leading private healthcare networks, headquartered in Istanbul. The group operates 18 multidisciplinary hospitals across Turkey and Europe, serving over 5 million patients annually. Medicana brings together more than 1,300 renowned physicians, offers services in over 85 specialties, and relies on state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced medical technologies.
