The King of Kings, the feature-length debut of Korean director and screenwriter Seong-Ho Jang, is an animated film that blends Dickens’ narrative with a journey into the universe of faith, seen through the eyes of a child. The film invites viewers to rediscover the enduring power of hope and love.
The international voice cast includes Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Forest Whitaker, Sir Ben Kingsley, Mark Hamill, Roman Griffin Davis, James Arnold Taylor, Jim Cummings, Mick Wingert, and many others.
The Romanian dubbing was produced by Creative Lab Studios. The Romanian voice cast features Alecsandru Dunaev, Ionuţ Grama, Maria Coman, Virgil Aioanei, Mihai Morar, Mircea Drâmbăreanu, Ilie Frăsinescu, Elias Ferkin, Tomi Cristin, Silviu Mircescu, and many others.
For special guests Maria Coman, a Byzantine music singer, and radio and TV host Mihai Morar, the dubbing process was a source of great joy.
“It was a wonderful experience. I felt part of the story, and the team at Creative Lab Studios helped me immensely — they made me feel as if I’d been doing this for years, even though this was my first time dubbing an animated film. The role of Catherine Dickens is special; she is a warm woman, a devoted mother who steps into the imaginative world of a child touched by the magic of the story. I hope all the children who watch this animation will understand the essence of the narrative and be truly moved by the story of Jesus. The entire film touched me deeply — I cried throughout — and I believe it is a masterpiece that will have a profound impact on people,” said Maria Coman.
“I love that Peter is like all of us — a mix of fear and courage, humility and doubt. My favorite scene is when Jesus offers to wash the apostles’ feet, and Peter can’t understand why. It is the ultimate act of service and humility, the example the Savior gives us about caring for one another. We need this film now more than ever, to show to our children, because Christmas is not only about trees and gifts — none of it would exist without the birth of the Savior. When the Savior was born, a new world began. Just as Dickens told his son the life of the Lord, it is our duty to pass on the story of stories to our children,” said Mihai Morar.
The King of Kings / „Împăratul Împăraţilor”, the animated film that recounts the life of Jesus Christ in a captivating way, following the intention of storyteller Charles Dickens in The Life of Our Lord, will enter cinemas nationwide on December 12, both in the original version and in the dubbed version, distributed by Light Distribution with the support of August Film.
A special film whose central theme is love, The King of Kings begins with a moment of joy within a family. Near Christmas, a father transforms bedtime storytelling for his son into an emotional adventure, taking him on an imaginary journey that will change their lives.
Developed over ten years by the South Korean animation studio MOFAC, Seong-Ho Jang’s film (one of the world’s most renowned visual effects specialists) is the result of a successful international collaboration: animation by Animost Studio Vietnam, post-production by SunJive Studios in Adelaide, Australia, and voice performances recorded in the United States and the United Kingdom. The film is distributed internationally through Angel Studios.
Positioned at the top of Korean productions with global success, The King of Kings is currently the most popular Bible-themed animated film.
