A fair featuring traditional Romanian blouses (ii) and shirts, along with a flower crown weaving workshop using wildflowers (scheduled between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM), will take place on June 24th, in celebration of the Sânziene holiday, at the “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum.

On the Dumitra Stage, starting at 12:30 PM, the event will feature performances by the “Mlădiţe Nedelene” folk ensemble from Nedelea commune, Prahova County, showcasing traditional dances and songs; the girls’ group “Ziene Nedelene” from the same commune (coordinated by Professor Maria Popescu); and Narcisa Băleanu, performing both on pan flute and vocals.

Celebrated as the beginning of the agricultural summer — which is why it’s also known as the "Summer’s Head" — this holiday is rich in symbolism and marked by numerous rituals meant to bring health, good fortune, and fertility. Like any transitional threshold, its magical energy is ambivalent, which is why some of the rituals are intended to ward off evil spirits — especially now, when the heavens are believed to open and the boundaries between worlds become blurred.

At the same time, the Orthodox Church also commemorates the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.
