Romania wins two silver and two bronze medals at the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics

The Ministry of Education announced on Saturday that Romania earned two silver medals and two bronze medals at the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI), held between 24–30 October 2025 in Larnaca, Cyprus.
“All four Romanian students who represented our country won medals,” the Ministry stated.
- Rareş Hanganu, Tudor Vianu National College of Computer Science, Bucharest – silver medal (4th place)
- Andrei Nemţişor, Costache Negruzzi National College, Iaşi – silver medal (6th place)
- Horia-Andrei Boeriu, Tudor Vianu National College of Computer Science, Bucharest – bronze medal (10th place)
- Mihnea Petru Apostol, International Theoretical High School of Informatics, Bucharest – bronze medal (15th place)
The competition brought together 33 official participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia, along with an unofficial team from the host country.
“The leaders of Romania’s team were professor Emanuela Cerchez, from Emil Racoviţă National College in Iaşi (vice president of the Society for Excellence and Performance in Informatics), and Alin Gabriel Răuleanu, a student at the Faculty of Computer Science, ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University of Iaşi. Congratulations to the students, their teachers, parents, and everyone who supported them on their journey to excellence,” the Ministry’s representatives added.
Organizational coordination on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research was provided by Georgeta Crăciunescu, education adviser, and Naghi Elisabeta Ana, inspector with the Ministry.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Romania’s national teams at international Olympiads by covering participation fees, travel costs, and daily allowances, as well as organizing the local, county, municipal, and national stages leading up to the international competitions.
