The Capital reopens for walks, gatherings and cultural discoveries on June 14–15 during the 7th “Open Streets – Bucharest” weekend

Three iconic areas of Bucharest – the Cotroceni neighborhood, Calea Victoriei, and Râmnicu Vâlcea Street in Sector 3 – will come alive with music, art, and play as part of the “Open Streets – Bucharest” event on June 14 and 15. These spaces will transform into vibrant community hubs open to exploration, interaction, and creativity.

Cotroceni Bazaar – A Partner Project of “Open Streets – Bucharest”

One of this year’s six partner projects in the “Open Streets – Bucharest” program, Cotroceni Bazaar is organized by the “Încotroceni – People, Ideas, Stories” Association in partnership with ARCUB – the Cultural Center of the City of Bucharest. For two days, several streets in Cotroceni and Romniceanu Park will become a cultural and community hub where classical music and jazz blend with participatory art, children's workshops, civic discussions, and educational initiatives.

Key Highlights from ARCUB:

  • Panel: “Good neighboring in the city – Do we still understand each other?”
Held in Romniceanu Park at the Cotroceni Bazaar Agora from 16:30 to 18:00, the panel will explore urban coexistence and interpersonal relationships. Moderated by journalist Cătălin Striblea, the conversation will feature Mihaela Păun (ARCUB Director), writer Radu Paraschivescu, and anthropologist Radu Umbreş.
  • Video game-inspired treasure hunt for kids
In collaboration with the Romanian Game Developers Association, ARCUB brings the world of video games to Cotroceni. “Raiders of the Lost Island,” created by Romanian studio Last Tales, becomes a live-action treasure hunt for children aged 4 to 8. Kids will team up to build a raft and escape a "sinking island" in Romniceanu Park, collecting treasure along the way.
Scheduled for June 14 and 15, between 10:00 and 13:00, with start times at 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30.

  • Evening concerts at Romniceanu Park
On both evenings from 18:30 to 21:00, the park will host open-air concerts.
Saturday, June 14: DUO Sorin Romanescu (guitar) and Mihai Iordache (saxophones), followed by the band JOUSKA
Sunday, June 15: A live performance by the jazz-fusion trio Marsdelux

Calea Victoriei – The city’s cultural corridor: art, parade and retro cars

Calea Victoriei will offer a vibrant mix of activities: outdoor painting demonstrations, embroidery and sewing workshops by Natelier de producţie, and an interactive booth in Revolution Square on Saturday organized by ALIAT as part of the Alcohol Consumption Awareness Week. In the evening, the Metropolitan Circus will present a short performance followed by a moving street parade.

Also on Saturday, visitors nostalgic for the 1980s–1990s can enjoy the “Oltcit Urban Fest” – a historical car exhibition featuring vehicles made in Craiova, hosted by the Retromobil Club România. The day concludes with the puppet animation show “Freestyle Puppetry” by Țăndărică Theatre.

On Sunday, the program continues with more painting sessions, a second performance of “Freestyle Puppetry,” and a modern dance show by the Challenge Arts Dance School in front of the CEC Palace.

Râmnicu Vâlcea street in Sector 3 – sports, games and family fun

Râmnicu Vâlcea Street becomes a space for movement, creativity, and play through a day-long program coordinated by PROEDUS, designed for all ages. Visitors can take part in mini basketball and ping-pong tournaments, interactive games like spikeball and crossnet, creative workshops, stilt walkers, mime performances, and unicycle acrobats.

The program also includes the “Licurici” show by the Metropolitan Library, a traditional Jewish music concert by the State Jewish Theater, live portrait drawing by artists from Art on Wall, and music and dance performances by the Bucharest School of Arts.

On Sunday, the activities continue with sports and workshops, alongside a series of performances and concerts. The day culminates with “Memories in a Suitcase,” a heartfelt theatrical story for children presented by the Ion Creangă Theater. The event ends with percussion and modern dance performances, turning the street into a lively, safe, and inclusive urban festival space.
