The renowned musical Notre Dame de Paris is coming to Romania for the first time, with a series of performances scheduled at Romexpo between January 15 and 19. The show will be presented in French, in its original version, with music by Riccardo Cocciante and lyrics by Luc Plamondon.
The event is part of the international tour of the original production, relaunched by its creators in 2016. The new version premiered at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, where it enjoyed major success, with sold-out performances for several consecutive weeks.
Audiences in Bucharest will have the opportunity to hear live some of the most iconic songs in the history of French musical theatre, including “Belle,” “Danse mon Esmeralda,” and “Le temps des cathédrales.” Inspired by Victor Hugo’s classic novel, the musical is widely regarded as one of the most successful productions of its genre worldwide.
Since its premiere in 1998, Notre Dame de Paris has been performed more than 5,000 times in 20 countries, attracting over 12 million spectators and generating sales of more than 19 million albums (CDs and DVDs). The production also entered the Guinness World Records for ticket sales in its first year, while the song “Belle” was named the best song of the 20th century in France.
The scale of the production is equally impressive: the original sets weigh approximately 200 tons and are transported between venues using seven mega-trailers.
Tickets for the Bucharest performances are available on the Eventim platform, and organizers report strong public interest.
The arrival of Notre Dame de Paris marks a significant moment for the local cultural scene, offering Romanian audiences their first-ever encounter with this iconic musical, presented in its original French-language version.
