The first two performances of the premiere of “No Magic Pill” by Christian O’Reilly, directed by Laurențiu Rusescu, will mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the National Theatre in Bucharest. The shows will take place on December 13 and 14, in the Atelier Hall.
On December 3, the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre joins the national “Purple Night Romania” campaign, organised by the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce (RDCC) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
On the evening of December 3, the façade of the National Theatre will be illuminated in purple—the international colour associated with the fight for the rights of persons with disabilities—and the official visual of the campaign will be displayed in the theatre’s communication spaces and on its online channels. Through this symbolic gesture, TNB joins cultural institutions across the country that send a unified message of openness, respect and responsibility towards persons with disabilities, at the fifth edition of the “Purple Night Romania” campaign.
This is the first Romanian theatre initiative dedicated to people with motor disabilities, bringing together professional actors and five amateur actors with motor disabilities, who courageously share their own life experiences on stage.
Inspired by the true story of Irish activist Martin Naughton, the production presents the stories of individuals fighting to preserve their dignity and independence within a system that constantly tests their limits. “Nicio pastilă magică / No Magic Pill” is staged for the first time outside Ireland, and its exploration of inclusion—approached with clarity, humour and genuine warmth—turns the encounter with the audience into a necessary dialogue about normality, access and respect.
The cast includes Raluca Aprodu, Marius Manole and Mihaela Velicu, alongside Alexandru Tache, Ariana Dumitru, Paul Lucian Teodorescu, Arian Notrețu and Alexandru Calițoiu, with video appearances by Alexandru Potocean, Cosmina Olariu and Vitalie Bichir. The set design is by Andreea Koch.
