Sector 6 Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced on Thursday that the tender for the construction of the sector’s new hospital has been completed. The project has an estimated value of around 200 million euros. He stated that the hospital will have over 300 beds, 75 medical offices, and eight operating theatres, covering specialties such as cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, and ophthalmology.

“I am extremely pleased to announce today the completion of the tender procedure for the construction of the Sector 6 hospital — the awarding procedure for both the design and execution phases. This is the most important project of the Sector 6 City Hall, and we are now at the end of a long cycle that has brought us to this moment. The hospital will be built here, on this land, on Timișoara Boulevard, between two very large and densely populated neighborhoods — Drumul Taberei and Militari. The western part of our city has insufficient access to medical services, and today we can finally announce that we have completed the contract awarding procedure. The design phase will last one year, and construction approximately three years.

It is the first new publicly funded hospital — as an independent entity, not just an added wing — to be built in Bucharest after the Revolution,” Ciucu said on Thursday.

He noted that the plot designated for the hospital covers 33,000 square meters, while the building itself will occupy 15,000 square meters.

Ciucu added that the hospital will have over 300 beds. “It will have 307 beds — 257 for continuous hospitalization and 50 for day-care patients. It will include 75 medical offices and eight operating theatres dedicated to cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. The facility will also feature seven delivery rooms, a neonatology department with 30 bassinets, an obstetrics-gynecology unit with 45 beds, and multiple laboratories for medical imaging, pathology, endoscopy, blood tests, and more. The hospital will also include an emergency unit,” the mayor explained.

He further stated that the project value amounts to nearly 200 million euros.

“This is excellent news for the residents of Sector 6. I promised this hospital. We had to navigate an extensive bureaucratic process, but I am glad we have overcome all the steps and are now waiting to see whether any appeals will be filed. If not, we will sign the contract and announce the winner of the tender. The total value of the project is 190 million euros, and the tender finalized today amounts to a little over 70 million euros,” Ciucu concluded.
