The National University of Theatre and Film Arts “I.L. Caragiale” (UNATC) in Bucharest has announced four new master’s programs starting this year: two at the Faculty of Theatre — Musical Theatre and Stand-up Comedy — and two at the Faculty of Film — TV Content and Production and Film Education and Education through Film.
Musical Theatre, offered by the Faculty of Theatre, will provide specialized training that integrates acting, singing, and dance/choreography. The program is designed for those seeking to acquire the knowledge and techniques specific to the genre, with the aim of developing acting, vocal, dance, and interpretative abilities, as well as improving the quality of cultural and theatrical productions.
Stand-up Comedy, also within the Faculty of Theatre, aims to deliver skills and working techniques specific to the professional demands of stand-up performance. The program focuses on creative writing — essential for content creation — as well as performance techniques that consider the unique convention in which the audience becomes the performer’s partner, and research into the mechanisms and themes characteristic of the comic genre.
Film Education and Education through Film, run by the Faculty of Film, is the first university program in Romania dedicated to training specialists in using film as an educational tool and promoting film culture to support knowledge and lifelong learning. In the context of new technologies and the powerful influence of audiovisual media on young audiences and public decision-making, the program prepares and certifies specialists able to create and conduct workshops and activities for children, adolescents, and adults. These activities aim to foster self-awareness, cognitive and emotional skills, media literacy, cultural expression, and critical viewing of audiovisual content. Teaching is competency-based, combining professional development in the field with life skills, and employs interactive, multisensory, and experiential methods such as role play, reflection, and investigation.
TV Content and Production, a first in Romania, will be delivered in a dual education format by UNATC and PRO TV. This program trains television specialists through a system in which main courses have a practical component held at PRO TV’s headquarters — one of Romania’s most prestigious private broadcasters — and a theoretical component taught at UNATC. Students will work with both university professors and active media professionals, gaining skills across all stages of TV content creation, using the latest technologies, and learning to manage dynamic work situations. A key goal is to increase the number of graduates employed in their field shortly after finishing the program.
Full details about these new master’s programs, including the admission calendar, are available at https://admitere.unatc.ro/. Applications are open from August 4 to September 9, 2025.
