Hidroelectrica surpasses one million customers and becomes Romania’s leading electricity supplier
State-owned company Hidroelectrica announced that it has surpassed the threshold of one million household and non-household customers on the retail electricity market, taking the number one position among electricity suppliers in Romania.
“Today, November 4, 2025, Hidroelectrica has exceeded the milestone of one million household and non-household customers on the retail electricity supply market.
This moment marks a symbolic stage in the company’s evolution, which entered the direct supply segment in 2020 and quickly became one of the most important players in the field,” the company said in a statement.
According to ANRE data from July, Hidroelectrica’s market share on the competitive segment reached 17.60%, placing the company first among Romania’s electricity suppliers.
In June, its market share stood at 15.16%, meaning that within just one month, Hidroelectrica managed to become the leader of Romania’s competitive electricity market.
“Reaching the threshold of one million customers confirms the trust that Romanians place in Hidroelectrica and in the values we promote: fairness, stability, transparency, and clean energy.
We will continue to invest persistently in digitalization, modern services, and renewable production sources, to meet the increasingly high expectations of our customers.
I would like to emphasize that Hidroelectrica has developed the most advanced online contracting portal in Romania, designed to serve both residential and business clients. The platform stands out through its intuitive, user-friendly, and secure interface, simplifying the contract signing process and significantly reducing administrative time,” said Bogdan Badea, President of the Hidroelectrica Directorate.
With over six decades of experience in hydropower generation, the company reaffirmed its commitment to producing 100% green energy and to supporting Romania in achieving its decarbonization targets.
“Since entering the electricity supply market, Hidroelectrica has implemented a series of strategic modernization projects aimed at improving the consumer experience and strengthening customer trust.
With a client-oriented and efficiency-driven approach, the company has prioritized full digitalization of its internal processes – from billing and payment to customer relationship management.
A key element in this strategy is the implementation of the ‘IHidro’ platform, which provides customers with quick access to information on consumption, invoices, and payments. In parallel, the company has introduced advanced IT systems for data and customer interaction management (CRM), enabling faster and more personalized responses to customer requests,” the company added.
Hidroelectrica remains Romania’s largest producer of renewable energy, managing a portfolio of 188 hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 6.4 GW, as well as the Crucea wind farm, with 108 MW installed capacity.
