“Divertis Dictionary of Humor” is a project exploring the evolution of Romanian humor from the 1980s to the present, presented as three live podcasts under the title “Anatomy of Comedy 2025.” These events will be hosted by ARCUB at Sala Gabroveni on June 3, 4, and 7. The moderators are Dan Chișu, Gojira, and Andrei Boncea, and the guest list includes Toni Grecu, Ioana State, Bogdan Naumovici, Sergiu Floroaia, Codin Maticiuc, Bogdan Mureșanu, Nae Caranfil, and Mihai Bendeac.
Organized by the COOLT Association, in collaboration with the legendary Divertis comedy group and with support from ARCUB – the Cultural Center of the City of Bucharest, this project is co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration. It aims to explore how humor benchmarks have shifted – from whispered jokes in the communist era to stand-up, TikToks, and memes today.

The project offers a multimedia exploration of how the Romanian sense of humor has changed over the decades. Under communism, humor was often a subtle tool of resistance and dissent. After 1989, jokes evolved alongside society, reflecting Romania’s transition to democracy and a widening range of topics.
The central question:
“What still makes Romanians laugh today?”
will be explored through:
- a humor dictionary with surprising terms
- six live conferences powered by Divertis (recorded and streamed on the Divertis Official YouTube channel)
- and three live shows by the Divertis group
Anatomy of Comedy 2025 – Conference Schedule
June 3 – Episode I: “From Jokes to Stand-Up”
Hosted by Dan Chișu, one of Romania’s first stand-up promoters, with guests:
- Sorin Pârcălab (Comics Club, Ceva Mărunt, Comedy Box)
- Sergiu Floroaia (Café Deko, Comedy Central Extra)
- Ioana State (iUmor, Stand-Up Revolution)
- Bogdan Naumovici (creator of Zimnicea, Țăndări, and iconic Romanian ad slogans)
June 4 – Episode II: “Who Still Pays for Comedy?”
Hosted by Gicu Gojira, known for his raw, direct style, this episode tackles the reality of free content culture. Guests include:
- Codin Maticiuc (Miami Bici, Two Lottery Tickets)
- Bogdan Mureșanu (The Christmas Gift)
Topic: Is anyone still willing to pay for comedy in 2025?
June 7 – Episode III: “Comedy vs. Reality”
Hosted by Andrei Boncea, with guests:
- Nae Caranfil (È pericoloso sporgersi, Filantropica, The Rest is Silence)
- Mihai Bendeac (În puii mei, The Bachelor’s Journal, The Marriage)
- Toni Grecu (Divertis, Strada Speranței)
Together, they’ll reflect on how Romanian live comedy, rooted in everyday life, has evolved since the '90s — and whether fictional comedy can ever match the sheer absurdity of real life.
As Toni Grecu puts it: “We must face reality, not run away from it.”
The next three Divertis public conferences will also be hosted by ARCUB in September — exact dates will be announced on coolt.org and the Divertis social media pages.
