Bucharest’s City Hall has announced a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at reducing congestion in one of the capital’s busiest areas: the Dimitrie Pompeiu – Fabrica de Glucoză – Șoseaua Pipera corridor. Described as one of the most ambitious and complex urban development efforts to date, the initiative seeks to modernize both traffic flow and public transport connectivity in the northern part of the city.

The project includes:

  • Widening Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard to improve traffic capacity;
  • Extending the tram network by connecting lines 16 and 36 to line 5, with a new route toward Barbu Văcărescu Boulevard;
  • Building a new road that links Șoseaua Pipera, Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard, and Fabrica de Glucoză Street;
  • Constructing a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, designed to safely span the road infrastructure and tram lines.

The estimated investment stands at 534.9 million lei (over €105 million), with construction expected to be completed in approximately three years.

With this project, the city aims to ease chronic traffic congestion in a critical business and commuting hub while improving integration between road infrastructure and public transportation systems.
