For anyone who needs a passport in Bucharest, the process is straightforward once you know the steps and available options.

Where do you submit the application?

Passport applications – whether for a standard electronic passport or a temporary one – must be submitted in person at any of the Community Public Services for Passports in Bucharest. The best-known location is the modern office inside ParkLake Shopping Center, with 17 service counters (14 for applications and 3 for passport collection).

Making an appointment online via the ePasapoarte platform is strongly recommended to avoid queues and secure a fixed time slot.

What documents and fees are required?

As of January 2025, the official fees are:

  • electronic passport for persons over 12 years old: 258 RON;
  • electronic passport for children under 12 years old: 234 RON;
  • temporary passport (any age): 96 RON.

The fees can be paid at CEC Bank branches, via SelfPay terminals, or online through Ghiseul.ro, without extra charges.

Required documents include: a valid ID card, proof of payment, and the previous passport (if applicable). For minors, a birth certificate is also needed, along with parental consent in certain cases.

How long does it take?

The standard electronic passport is usually issued within a maximum of 5 working days for applications submitted in Romania, although processing times may vary between 1.7 and 10 days depending on demand. A temporary passport is issued in about 3 working days.

Since January 2025, applicants can also choose the option of free home delivery by post to any address in Romania. Those who prefer to collect the passport in person at the counter should be prepared for longer waiting times due to crowds.

In short

If you need a passport in Bucharest, the easiest route is to book your appointment online, submit the documents at one of the passport offices (ParkLake being the most accessible), pay the fees in advance, and expect a processing time of just a few days. Once issued, the passport can either be collected in person or conveniently delivered to your home free of charge.
