Children attending state schools in Bucharest can receive free dental consultations and treatments at clinics within the capital's school healthcare network. These services go beyond routine check-ups: dentists can treat cavities, perform scaling, apply dental sealants and carry out extractions, depending on each child's needs.

Importantly, children do not necessarily have to attend a school with its own dental clinic. They may also receive care at a clinic located in another educational institution within the same sector, under the conditions established by the Bucharest Hospitals and Medical Services Administration (ASSMB).

For October 2026, ASSMB published an updated list of operational dental clinics, including addresses, phone numbers and operating periods. Below is a selection of locations in each of Bucharest's six sectors to help parents find a clinic near them.

What dental treatments are free for children?

School dental clinics are part of the healthcare network administered by ASSMB and provide services to pupils attending state schools in Bucharest.

Available services include dental examinations, cavity treatments, scaling, tooth extractions and dental sealants. The dentist determines which procedures are necessary after examining the child.

Preventive care is an important part of these services. For example, sealing the first permanent molars, commonly known as six-year molars, helps protect their chewing surfaces against tooth decay. ASSMB has also organised campaigns offering free sealants for these teeth.

Preventive examinations may take place as part of routine school healthcare activities. However, dental treatments require the written, informed consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Where are the free school dental clinics in Bucharest?

The following list includes a selection of school dental clinics listed as operational by ASSMB for October 2026. Clinics marked as non-operational and those exclusively serving university students have been excluded.

Some clinics operate only on certain days or during specific periods of the month. Parents are therefore advised to call before visiting.

Can children visit a dental clinic if their school does not have one?

Yes. According to ASSMB, children attending schools and kindergartens without their own dental clinics can receive care at another educational institution within the same sector that has an operational clinic.

This is particularly useful for parents who assume that private dental care is their only option when their child's school does not have a dentist.

The official ASSMB list also identifies the schools and kindergartens assigned to particular dental clinics. Before making an appointment, parents should check which clinic serves their child's educational institution and whether appointments are available.

How to book an appointment at a school dental clinic

ASSMB has introduced an online appointment platform for dental consultations and treatments within its school and university healthcare network. Appointments can also be requested by telephone.

Parents can consult the dental appointments section of the ASSMB website or contact the clinic directly using the phone numbers provided in the official list.

When calling, it is helpful to mention the child's age, the school or kindergarten they attend and the reason for the appointment. Medical staff can confirm whether the clinic accepts children from other schools, when a dentist is available and which documents are required.

Parental consent is also important. Preventive examinations and dental procedures do not involve exactly the same formalities: treatment requires the written, informed consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Are school dental clinics open during school holidays?

ASSMB states that free dental services may also be available during school holidays. However, this does not mean that every clinic remains open throughout the holidays or follows the same schedule.

The October 2026 list shows that some clinics operate throughout the month, while others have shorter operating periods or temporary interruptions.

Parents should therefore check opening hours before each visit, even if their child has previously received treatment at the same clinic.

The complete list, including all dental clinics and their assigned educational institutions, is available in the ASSMB document titled “Lista locații cabinete stomatologice funcționale în luna octombrie 2026” .

School dental clinics provide an option for routine dental consultations and treatments, but parents should also know where to seek medical assistance when their child experiences an emergency. For these situations, the guide to where to take children for emergency medical care in Bucharest provides information about the capital's paediatric emergency departments.

For children who need a routine check-up, cavity treatment or preventive dental procedure, school dental clinics can offer a free alternative to private dental services. The first step is to identify the appropriate clinic and confirm its schedule by telephone.
