Bucharest is once again preparing to become the Capital of Winter Holidays. Starting November 29, 2025, and for an entire month, the city will be transformed into a winter wonderland filled with light, color, and festive music. The Bucharest City Hall, through CREART – the Center for Creation, Art and Tradition, is organizing for the first time three free-entry Christmas fairs that will bring joy to the heart of the city until December 28.

The events are dedicated to all residents of the capital, as well as to tourists who choose to discover the charm of Bucharest during the most magical time of the year. The 2025 edition’s theme is music – a bridge between tradition and modernity, bringing Romanian carols, classical harmonies, and urban rhythms to the stages of the fairs.

Bucharest Christmas Market – Constitution Square

The largest and most famous Christmas fair in Romania returns for its 18th edition, between November 29 and December 28, 2025, in Constitution Square. Visiting hours are daily: Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., including Christmas Day.

The enchanting décor, the 30-meter-tall Christmas tree – the largest eco-friendly tree in the country – Santa’s House, the Ferris wheel, and spectacular lighting displays turn the square into the festive heart of the city.

The fair gathers over 120 wooden stalls showcasing craftsmen, visual artists, urban artisans, and local producers. Visitors can discover folk art objects, Romanian-inspired souvenirs, and seasonal delicacies, from traditional sarmale and cozonac to mulled wine and gingerbread.

The artistic program is divided into two thematic areas:

  • Traditional zone, featuring folk ensembles, choirs, and well-known performers presenting Romanian carols and customs;
  • Urban zone, brought to life by DJs and artists who will create a dynamic, modern atmosphere.

For children, Santa’s House will be open throughout the event, and on December 13 at 5:00 p.m., Santa Claus will make his official appearance in Constitution Square, staying until Christmas Eve. Weekends will be dedicated to theatre performances, costumed characters, and creative workshops for the little ones.

Bucharest Downtown Christmas Market – University Square

Also taking place from November 29 to December 28, 2025, the Bucharest City Hall and CREART, in partnership with Food Truck Festival, are launching a new concept – the Bucharest Downtown Christmas Market, in University Square.

This event is an urban culinary pop-up, where 15 food trucks will offer dishes inspired by international cuisines – from American street food to Asian desserts and European specialties. The atmosphere will be complemented by live music, DJ sets, a stunning Christmas tree, light installations, and the traditional carousel.

The city center will thus turn into a modern space for socializing and relaxation, perfect for evenings spent with friends or family in a festive, urban setting.

Bucharest Opera Christmas Market – Esplanade of the Bucharest National Opera

Between December 6 and 28, 2025, the esplanade of the Bucharest National Opera will transform into an elegant space where classical music meets the spirit of Christmas.

Organized by Bucharest City Hall, through CREART, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Bucharest National Opera, this fair offers a refined atmosphere inspired by Parisian squares.

The wooden chalets will host handcrafted products, fine sweets, and children’s workshops, while every weekend the open-air stage will feature recitals, classical music concerts, and live broadcasts from the Opera’s repertoire.

A beautifully decorated Christmas tree will complete the festive setting, making the area a must-visit destination for culture and tradition enthusiasts.

Bucharest, the European capital of winter holidays

Following the example of major European capitals – Vienna, Prague, Berlin, or Budapest – Bucharest will offer in 2025 three free-entry Christmas fairs, each with its own unique identity, united under the same theme: the joy of being together.

For a whole month, locals and tourists alike will experience the diversity of Christmas traditions, flavors, and sounds, in an atmosphere that turns the city into a spectacle of light and celebration.
