Romania’s Ministry of Culture launches competition for Director position at the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre in Bucharest / Applications open until March 5

The Ministry of Culture has announced the launch of a management project competition for the position of Director of the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre in Bucharest. The competition will be organized at the Ministry’s headquarters, located at 22 Unirii Boulevard.
Application files must be submitted by March 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM, to the Human Resources Department (4th floor, Room 419).
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- hold a university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent long-term higher education diploma);
- have academic training in humanities and arts, theatre, or performing arts;
- demonstrate management experience, whether continuous, successive, or cumulative, as applicable;
- not hold a managerial position at another public cultural institution in Romania at the time of application.
Competition timeline
- January 20, 2026 – Public announcement of:
- participation requirements;
- the objectives brief;
- the competition regulations, drafted in accordance with the framework regulation;
- the full competition calendar, including deadlines for each stage;
- the list of documents required for the application file;
- the bibliography;
- technical guidelines for drafting and presenting the management project, as well as any additional relevant information.
- March 5, 2026 – Deadline for submitting management projects and application files.
- March 6–10, 2026 – Administrative review and selection of application files.
- March 11–20, 2026 – Evaluation of management projects (first stage).
- March 23–24, 2026 – Presentation of management projects during interviews (second stage).
Within 24 hours of the conclusion of the second stage, the competition results will be communicated to candidates and made public.
Appeals procedure
Candidates who are dissatisfied with the way the competition procedure was conducted may submit appeals regarding compliance with the organizational and procedural rules to the Cultural Institutions Management Department, in accordance with Chapter IV of the competition regulations.
Within 24 hours after the appeal submission deadline, or after appeals are resolved, the final results, the list of candidates, and other public-interest information will be published at the headquarters of both the Ministry and the institution, as well as on their official websites.
Upon signing the management contract with the selected candidate, the Ministry of Culture will publish on its website all management projects admitted to the first stage of the competition. Participation in the competition implies candidates’ consent to the publication of their management projects, in compliance with applicable legislation.
