Four consecutive evenings, from “Tosca” to “Turandot”

On Thursday, 5 November, Giacomo Puccini’s “Tosca” brings the story of singer Floria Tosca and painter Mario Cavaradossi to the stage. Mario De Carlo’s production is performed in Italian with surtitles and has an announced running time of approximately three hours, including two intervals. Available tickets for this evening started at 50 lei.

Friday, 6 November, brings Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”, directed by Sir David Pountney. The intrigues and misunderstandings surrounding Figaro and Susanna’s wedding create a comedy about love, jealousy and social differences. The opera is sung in Italian with surtitles, with a listed running time of three hours, including one interval. When checked, only two tickets remained in the 90-lei category.

On Saturday, 7 November, Camille Saint-Saëns’s “Samson and Delilah” is scheduled. Directed by Giandomenico Vaccari, the production has an announced running time of two hours and 40 minutes, including two intervals, and is performed in French with surtitles. Available prices started at 40 lei.

On Sunday, 8 November, audiences can see Puccini’s “Turandot”. Mario de Carlo is responsible for the production’s direction, sets, costumes and lighting. Tickets remained available in four price categories, ranging from 50 to 200 lei, before the processing fee.

“Faust” and “Carmen” in the second half of the month

Scheduled for 20 November, Charles Gounod’s “Faust” makes for a longer evening at the opera. The institution lists an estimated running time of four and a half hours, including intervals. Directed by Alexandru Tocilescu, the production is performed in French with surtitles. It starts at 18:00, a detail worth considering when planning your journey after work.

On Sunday, 22 November, Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” is scheduled, directed by Ada Lupu Hausvater. When checked, the system showed 49 tickets available in total, including just three priced at 50 lei. This figure reflects availability at the time of research; if you need two or more seats together, check the seating plan before buying.

Ending the month with Verdi and “The Elixir of Love”

On Wednesday, 25 November, Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” returns to the story of Violetta Valéry, inspired by Alexandre Dumas fils’s “The Lady of the Camellias”. The production is directed by Paul Curran and sung in Italian with surtitles. The ticket page also includes December performances, so make sure you select 25 November if that is your preferred evening.

Friday, 27 November, brings “Nabucco”, also by Verdi, directed by Hero Lupescu. The published running time is 160 minutes, including two intervals, and the performance is sung in Italian with surtitles. Tickets priced at 25 lei were still available for this performance, although only six seats remained in that category when checked.

On Saturday, 28 November, Gaetano Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love” rounds off the selection with a comic opera directed by Marco Gandini. The performance lasts approximately two hours, including one interval, and is presented in Italian with surtitles. Available tickets ranged from 25 to 150 lei, making it one of the lower-priced options in the programme checked.

How to buy tickets and what to check before setting off

Tickets can be purchased online or at the Opera’s box office, open daily from 10:00–13:00 and 14:00–19:00, according to the official visitor information. The institution states that advance reservations are not available: tickets must be purchased directly. For online orders, the platform adds a processing fee, so the final total may exceed the price shown in the table.

If you are bringing children, bear in mind that children under six are not admitted to regular performances, with exceptions for productions specifically intended for them. Check the running time of your chosen production too. For availability enquiries, the Opera’s contact page lists 0374 036 400, available Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 16:00.
