October 2026 brings five very different weekends to Bucharest. The month begins with fairs, architecture and early music, continues with one of the Capital’s largest light festivals and the Bucharest Marathon, while the second half of October is dominated by the National Theatre Festival and several important cultural and gastronomic events.

For those planning their weekends in advance, we checked the major events already confirmed for each weekend of the month. The dates and details below are based on information announced by organisers, institutions involved and official ticketing platforms by September 30, 2026. Some festival programmes may still change, so it is worth checking the latest information before heading out.

Weekend of October 2–4: a fair at Romexpo, architecture in the street and early music

The first weekend of October begins with Cosmetics Beauty Hair 2026, held between October 1 and 4 at ROMEXPO. The fair is dedicated to the beauty, personal care and lifestyle industries, but admission is not restricted to professionals. According to ROMEXPO, the programme includes live demonstrations, competitions, presentations and meetings with trainers and industry specialists. Saturday, October 3, focuses mainly on manicure and pedicure, while Sunday, October 4, is dedicated to hair and hairstyling. The event takes place in Pavilion B1, and the admission ticket announced by ROMEXPO costs 20 lei per day.

Another event scheduled for the first weekend is ARCHY FEST – QUINETWORK, when Edgar Quinet Street becomes an open-air space dedicated to architecture. The event takes place on October 3 and 4 and brings architects, students, projects, installations, exhibitions and workshops into the street. The “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning is participating with student projects and exhibitions, while the concept of this year’s edition focuses on bringing architecture closer to the people who experience the city every day.

Those looking for a quieter cultural programme can choose the Bucharest Early Music Days, which continue until Sunday, October 4. The festival runs from September 30 to October 4 and includes seven events dedicated to Renaissance and Baroque music. On October 3, at 6:00 PM, the Suțu Palace hosts the concert “L'Eco delle Voci Pure”, while the final events of the edition take place on October 4. The official programme also includes events with free admission.

Weekend of October 9–11: Spotlight, Bucharest Marathon and RO-WINE

The second weekend of the month is one of the busiest. Spotlight – International Light Art Festival returns between October 9 and 11, and its 10th anniversary edition is organised under the theme “PLAYGROUND”. Bucharest City Hall, through ARCUB, has announced 19 immersive installations and video-mapping works. The main route unfolds along Calea Victoriei, between the Radisson Blu area and Splaiul Independenței, with extensions at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni and several partner venues.

The Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest Marathon takes place during the same weekend, on October 10 and 11, 2026. According to the official regulations, the programme includes the marathon, half marathon, 10 km race, relay and associated races. The event is organised by Bucharest Running Club in partnership with the Romanian Athletics Federation and Bucharest City Hall. Even for those who are not taking part, the marathon is worth keeping in mind because traffic restrictions are expected in central Bucharest. Drivers should check the Bucharest Traffic Police announcements shortly before the event.

Also scheduled for October 9–11 is the autumn edition of RO-WINE – The International Wine Festival of Romania, hosted at Fratelli Studios. Friday, October 9, is dedicated to the HoReCa industry, while the programme for the general public on Saturday and Sunday runs between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The festival brings together wineries, importers, distributors and gourmet producers. Ticket prices listed by the official sales platform start at 130 lei.

Families can also attend the “100, 1,000, 1,000,000 Stories” International Theatre Festival for Children, organised by Ion Creangă Theatre between October 8 and 11. The programme includes productions such as “The Story of King Lear”, “Antipodes”, “Baby Esferic”, “Little Worlds” and “Harap Alb”.

Weekend of October 16–18: the National Theatre Festival begins, while the Village Museum becomes a gastronomic destination

One of the main cultural events of the autumn begins on October 16: the National Theatre Festival 2026. The 36th edition is organised by UNITER and takes place between October 16 and 25 in numerous venues across Bucharest. The programme brings together 36 productions selected from more than 150 performances viewed by the curatorial team.

The selected productions are staged at venues including the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre, Bulandra Theatre, Teatrul Mic, ARCUB, Masca Theatre, Excelsior Theatre, Odeon Theatre, Nottara Theatre, the Comedy Theatre and the Bucharest National Opera, among others.

Also between October 16 and 18, the “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum hosts the Taste of Transylvania Boutique Festival. The event combines Transylvanian gastronomy with contemporary cuisine and brings chefs and representatives of several restaurants to Bucharest. The programme begins at 12:00 PM, while tickets, depending on the chosen category, include dishes served during the festival. Museum admission is included in the event ticket.

On October 17 and 18, ParentED Fest 2026 also takes place at the Aula Magna of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest. The third edition has announced speakers including Daniel J. Siegel, Alfie Kohn, Tina Payne Bryson, Erica Komisar, Isabelle Filliozat, Caroline Welch and Jessica Joelle Alexander. Tickets are sold in several categories, with standard prices published by the organiser starting at 908 lei for one adult for both days, alongside promotional and group packages.

For visitors looking for several different types of events in a single weekend, October 16–18 offers a particularly varied programme: theatre, gastronomy, parenting-related events and several professional fairs. DENTA & ROMMEDICA 2026 are also scheduled at ROMEXPO between October 16 and 18.

Weekend of October 23–25: the National Theatre Festival enters its final three days

The weekend of October 23–25 is dominated by the National Theatre Festival, which reaches the final days of its 2026 edition. The official programme includes numerous performances and related events on Friday and Saturday, with activities continuing on Sunday, October 25.

One of the main advantages for the public is that the National Theatre Festival is not concentrated in a single building. It effectively transforms Bucharest into a city-wide theatre circuit. TNB, Bulandra, Teatrul Mic, ARCUB, Masca, Excelsior, Odeon, Nottara, the Comedy Theatre, POINT, ACT, Grivița 53, the Bucharest National Opera and other venues host productions included in the official selection.

For the most popular performances, checking ticket availability before the weekend is strongly recommended.

Unlike the previous weekend, we did not identify, as of September 30, another large-scale urban festival scheduled for October 23–25 with sufficiently strong confirmation to place it alongside the National Theatre Festival. Several concerts, performances, parties and thematic events have already been announced, but their scale and status are different.

Weekend of October 30–31: SoNoRo begins and Halloween brings parties across the city

The final weekend of the month is slightly unusual because October ends on Saturday, October 31, while Sunday already belongs to November.

One of the major cultural events beginning at that time is SoNoRo Festival 2026. The opening concert, “Lord of the Strings”, is scheduled for Friday, October 30, at 7:00 PM, in the Royal Dining Room of the National Museum of Art of Romania, at 49–53 Calea Victoriei.

On Saturday, October 31, SoNoRo continues with “Colours: Jazz in Motion”, beginning at 7:00 PM at Bragadiru Palace – Godot Hall. The festival continues into November in several venues across Bucharest, including the “Tinerimea Română” National Art Centre and ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni.

Halloween night also brings events for those looking for parties. One of the events already confirmed through an official ticketing platform is CAVO – Halloween Edition, scheduled for October 31 from 10:00 PM in the indoor VIP area of the National Arena. The announced line-up includes Carloh, Ferra Black, Sasac X Hutson and Madmoss.

The calendar may become considerably richer as the end of the month approaches. Halloween parties in particular are often announced by clubs and private venues only during October. For that reason, this list includes only events that already have a confirmed date, venue and organiser.

October 2026 does not therefore have a single “main weekend” in Bucharest. Between October 9 and 11, Spotlight, the Bucharest Marathon, RO-WINE and the Ion Creangă Theatre festival all overlap. Between October 16 and 18, the National Theatre Festival begins and Taste of Transylvania takes place, while the final weekend of the month marks the opening of this year’s SoNoRo Festival.

If you are planning to travel through central Bucharest during the Bucharest Marathon weekend or during the Spotlight evenings, it is also worth checking temporary traffic restrictions. These are usually announced separately, closer to the dates of the events.
