Spotlight returns to Calea Victoriei from 9 to 11 October 2026, bringing video-mapping projections, interactive installations and digital artworks. The programme begins at 19:00 each evening and ends at 23:00, with free admission.

The theme of this anniversary edition is “Playground”. For three evenings, one of Bucharest’s best-known thoroughfares will become an exploration space where buildings, light, sound and the audience are all part of the same show.

1. See Bucharest’s buildings transformed by light

The first reason to visit Spotlight is the city itself. During the day, Calea Victoriei is a journey through Bucharest’s architecture, lined with palaces, theatres, hotels and monuments. After nightfall, the festival changes the way you see them.

The organisers have announced 19 installations and artworks, while the façades of six buildings will be transformed through video-mapping shows. The projections do more than use the architecture as a conventional screen. The shapes, windows and decorative details of the buildings are incorporated into the artworks, making the façades appear to move, break apart or acquire new dimensions.

The 2026 edition brings together more than 16 artists from Romania, Switzerland, France, Australia, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom. Visitors will encounter immersive installations, light sculptures, new-media projects and large-scale audiovisual performances.

2. You are invited to explore, not simply watch

The “Playground” theme proposes more than a series of projections. Calea Victoriei becomes a visual playground where visitors are encouraged to move around, discover the works and observe how familiar parts of the city are transformed.

Some installations will combine light with sound, movement and technology. Others will focus on the relationship between the artwork and the viewer. This variety makes the festival accessible even if you know little about digital art. You can attend with friends, family or children and create your own route.

More than three kilometres of cables and fibre optics, 20 laser video projectors and over 200 light sources will be used for this edition. These figures reveal the technical scale of the event, but the experience itself remains easy to enjoy: an evening walk through central Bucharest, with the scenery changing from one building to the next.

3. You have three evenings to explore, and admission is free

Spotlight takes place over three days, from Friday to Sunday. You do not have to complete the entire route in a single evening. You can see some of the works on Friday and return during the weekend for the installations you missed or the projections you would like to experience again.

Free admission also makes the event suitable for a spontaneous evening out. However, the festival attracts a large audience. Bucharest City Hall estimates that Spotlight welcomes approximately 300,000 visitors each year, so arriving shortly after 19:00 may be more convenient for families with children and anyone hoping to avoid the larger late-evening crowds.

Public transport is the most practical way to reach the city centre. Any traffic restrictions and changes to public transport routes should be checked closer to the festival dates. Comfortable shoes are equally important: Spotlight is designed as a walking route, not as a show watched from a single location.

Spotlight 2026 programme at a glance

Spotlight is organised by Bucharest City Hall through ARCUB – the Cultural Centre of Bucharest. Launched in 2015, the festival reaches its tenth edition in 2026 and has become one of the city’s largest events dedicated to light art.

If this is your first visit, do not try to see everything in a rush. Choose one end of the route, watch several projections from beginning to end and allow time for the interactive installations. Spotlight is more than a succession of spectacular photographs for social media. It is one of the few opportunities to experience central Bucharest as a constantly moving work of art.
