Rose's Mystery House: a story from 1888 is waiting for you to continue it

  • LOCATION

On Strada Lipscani 37, among buildings with worn facades and cafés pressed tightly against one another, there is an entrance that looks different from the rest. It doesn't announce itself loudly — but it draws you in. And if you know to look for it, you'll find Rose's Mystery House: one of the most unusual places to open in Bucharest in recent years.

The concept grows from a story. In 1888, a woman named Rose lived in an old Victorian house on a quiet, cobbled street. She collected myths, secrets and strange tales from travellers arriving from every corner of the world, writing them carefully into small leather notebooks, convinced that stories were alive. At some point, the line between her life and her writings began to fade. What happened after — no one knows for certain. Some say the stories kept her. Others believe she became one of them. The house, however, still remembers Rose.

This is the premise from which everything inside has grown.

Rose's Café

The first section to open, in December 2025, is the café — built inside a greenhouse and designed as a world of its own. Velvet curtains. Portraits that seem to follow you. A single light that flickers as you step in. The drinks are themed, inspired by Rose's notebooks, and the characters from her story appear too, at unexpected moments, as part of the experience itself.

This is not a place you come to work on your laptop. It is a place where the atmosphere is as much a part of the order as the drink in your glass. Reservations are made online at rosesmysteryhouse.eu and are strongly recommended, especially on weekends.

Rose's House

From January 2026, the escape rooms section — Rose's House — opened its doors. The rooms are built around the legends and mysteries of the location's narrative universe, and the experience is designed to continue the story the café began. These are not classic escape rooms with padlocks and codes — they are immersive experiences in which the setting, the atmosphere and the narrative thread matter just as much as the puzzles themselves.

Tickets are purchased online, in advance, through the same website.

Rose's Stories

The third section, Rose's Stories, is a narrative walkthrough set to open on Halloween 2026. For now it is marked as coming soon — which, in the logic of this place, sounds more like a promise than an administrative note.

Why it is worth the visit

Bucharest has plenty of good cafés and a handful of decent escape rooms. Rose's Mystery House does something different: it builds a coherent universe in which each section — the café, the rooms, the story — makes sense alongside the others. Lipscani is already a neighbourhood where experiences follow one another quickly and are forgotten just as fast. The places that stay in memory are those that offer something you cannot find anywhere else.

A greenhouse with characters stepping out of the page and a Victorian house where time seems to have stopped in 1888 qualify, without question, in that category.

Opening hours: open daily from 1:00 pm
