The Museum of Recent Art (MARe) in Bucharest is a modern cultural institution dedicated to Romanian and international contemporary art.
The MARe Foundation was established in February 2015, with the mission to support and develop the work of MARe - the first private museum in Romania focused on local art of the last 50 years. MARe stands out for its innovative approach in presenting and promoting artistic creations from the last decades. MARe's permanent collection includes significant works by important Romanian artists such as Ion Grigorescu, Geta Brătescu, Horia Brenciu, and Dan Perjovschi, alongside works by renowned international creators such as Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The museum building, located in the central area of Bucharest, is an example of contemporary architecture, combining modern design elements with the functionality needed for a high-quality exhibition space. The over 1200 m2 of the building comprises 5 levels: basement - with exhibition space and auditorium, ground floor - with shop and cafeteria, 1st and 2nd floors - dedicated to the permanent collection, attic - with exhibition space, workshop space, library and reading area; and between the levels there are three other exhibition areas; all this is complemented by the museum's generous garden.
The temporary exhibitions and cultural events organized by MARe contribute to the dynamism of the art scene in Bucharest, attracting both locals and tourists.
In addition to its exhibition function, MARe assumes an educational and research role, organizing workshops, conferences and programs for various audiences. Through these initiatives, the museum encourages dialog between artists, art critics and visitors, promoting a better understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. MARe is a point of reference in Bucharest's cultural landscape, providing a vital platform for modern artistic expression and the exploration of new directions in art.
