Filipescu-Cesianu House

By Bucharest Team

  • LOCATION

Located at 151 Calea Victoriei, Filipescu-Cesianu House is one of the few aristocratic residences from Bucharest’s Belle Époque that has preserved its original elegance. Built between 1846 and 1850 for the Filipescu family and redesigned in 1892 by lawyer Constantin Cesianu, the building stands out through its refined details, imperial-style roof, and quiet inner courtyard.

What makes it special

Architectural heritage – A neoclassical gem with elegant facades, ornate balconies, and harmonious proportions that evoke the refinement of old Bucharest.
Authentic restoration – Recently renovated and included in the city's museum network, the house maintains its original layout and decorative features from the 19th century.
Museum of urban domestic life – It hosts the permanent exhibition “Museum of Ages,” which documents 300 years of everyday life in Bucharest through period furniture, clothing, household objects, and, soon, a lapidarium with historic fresco fragments.

Atmosphere & experience

Visitors follow a circular path through rooms decorated in different historical styles — from 18th-century boyar salons to bourgeois dining rooms from the 1930s. The courtyard offers a peaceful green space, while the outbuildings host temporary exhibitions, screenings, and evening events, especially during the summer.
