The program published by Zile și Nopți for this weekend brings together very different proposals, from lăutărească music and hits from the 1980s-2000s to contemporary theatre, modern art and urban culture events. Two of the most important landmarks of the weekend are Balkanik Festival 2026, organized between August 28 and 30 in Tei Park, and the George Enescu International Festival, already underway in Bucharest from August 23 to September 19. At the same time, the theatre program remains consistent, while concert lovers have both live bands and themed evenings and parties at their disposal. 

Theatre for all tastes, from comedy to love stories

Friday evening, August 28, begins in theatrical fashion with “Looks Like a Madhouse! (Toc Toc)”, scheduled at 7:00 PM at Teatrul În Culise. The performance takes place around six patients with psychological disorders who meet in a medical office, each character bringing their own particularity and their own type of humor. 

Also on Friday, at 7:30 PM, Teatrul Roșu presents “A Little Too Unfaithful”, a comedy built around relationships, love and situations in which feelings can become the source of unexpected conflicts. 

At 8:00 PM, Casa Kerim hosts “Umami”, a performance written and directed by Teodora Savu, with Cătălina Romaneț in the cast. Thus, Friday evening already offers three distinct options for those who want to begin the weekend in a theatre setting. 

On Saturday, the theatrical offer becomes even more diverse. At 4:30 PM, Teatrul Roșu presents “Double-Distilled Love”, the story of several characters who find themselves in a forgotten railway station where time seems to have stopped and who are forced to spend an unexpected period together. At Teatrul Masca, at 7:00 PM, “Of Of Of” is scheduled, a performance that specifies from the outset that it is not a production about neurodivergent people or people living with mental disorders. 

At 7:30 PM, also at Teatrul Roșu, audiences can see “The Other Wife”, while at 8:00 PM, Teatrul În Culise presents “White Nights”, a dramatization bringing to the stage the love story between Nastasia and Feodor. 

On Sunday, August 30, the theatrical program continues with “The Scandal-Makers”, at 6:00 PM, at Teatrul Roșu, and “The Blue Room”, after David Hare, at 7:00 PM, at Teatrul În Culise. The latter performance follows, across ten scenes, the relationships between ten characters who exchange partners in a complicated game of expectations, desires and experiences. 

Concerts, from lăutărească music to the hits of the 2000s

For those who prefer live music, the weekend begins on Friday, August 28, with Vali Crăciunescu & Cooperativa 9 at Berăria H, in a concert scheduled for 8:15 PM and entitled “De of și Aoleu”. The artist is known for the way he brought the accordion closer to the world of Romanian rock, while the concert is part of the series of events taking place on the venue’s terrace. 

At Hard Rock Cafe, starting at 9:30 PM, Bedda Band takes the stage, a group presenting a repertoire built around well-known songs and promising an evening of live music. On Saturday, also at Hard Rock Cafe, at 9:30 PM, the band Over is scheduled. Originally from Galați, the group performs a diverse repertoire that includes blues, pop and classic rock. 

On Sunday, August 30, the music moves toward a strongly traditional atmosphere. At Manasia Hub, starting at 5:00 PM, “Sunday with Lăutari” brings Taraful Frunză into the spotlight. The program includes old mahala music, traditional horas, sârbas and party songs, with an emphasis on acoustic sound and on preserving the traditional character of the repertoire. 

The evening ends at Berăria H, where “Retro Evening” with Shaz Band is scheduled for 8:30 PM. The concept is built around hits from the 1980s through the 2000s, in an open-air event dedicated to those who want to dance to songs that have become classics for several generations. 

Balkanik Festival and the George Enescu Festival, two of the weekend’s major attractions

One of the most important events of the weekend is Balkanik Festival 2026, scheduled from August 28 to 30 in Tei Park. This year’s edition takes place throughout the weekend, transforming the area around the lake into a meeting point for music and Balkan culture. Zile și Nopți indicates that the festival begins on Friday, August 28, at 4:00 PM. 

At the same time, Bucharest hosts the 2026 George Enescu International Festival, which began on August 23 and is scheduled to run until September 19. In the weekend calendar, the festival appears on Friday, August 28, at 2:00 PM, at the Romanian Athenaeum, while on Saturday, August 29, it is indicated in the festival program at the National University of Music Bucharest, beginning at 9:00 AM. 

Therefore, music lovers have two completely different directions available this weekend: the multicultural and energetic atmosphere of Balkanik Festival and the world of classical music represented by the Enescu Festival. Both events contribute to the image of an extremely active cultural Bucharest at the end of summer.

Exhibitions and screenings for a quieter weekend

Those who prefer museums and art can begin their weekend with the exhibition “Between Socialist Realism and National Communism”, hosted by Suțu Palace and scheduled for Friday from 10:00 AM. The exhibition examines how artists related to the political and cultural realities of the period, from adaptation to marginalization. 

Also starting at 10:00 AM, the “Aman – Line, Point” exhibition can be visited at the Theodor Aman Museum. The selection focuses on the artist’s drawings, from quick sketches and images created to preserve an impression to preparatory studies and variants of works. 

At MARe – Museum of Recent Art, the program begins at 11:00 AM with “Late Summer Spritz”, through which the museum expands its perspective on the artistic scene by presenting an artist whose works are part of the institution’s collection. MARe also hosts the exhibition “Photographs by Constantin Brâncuși”, dedicated to the vintage black-and-white photographs made by the great Romanian sculptor. 

Cinema also has a place in the program. On Friday, at Cinema Europa, “Endless Summer” is scheduled for 5:30 PM, while “Asian Spotlight Vol. 2” begins at 6:15 PM. The first screening evokes the atmosphere of a summer that seems never to end, while the second presents a selection of seven Asian films, with stories about loves, cities and characters facing complicated emotional situations. 

Fairs, workshops and tours for families

The weekend also offers proposals for those who want participatory activities. On Friday, at Casa General Henri Cihoschi, from 7:00 PM, the Calea Victoriei Foundation organizes “Debate Workshop for Adults: From Opinion to Argument”, designed as a setting for meaningful discussions and communication exercises. 

On Saturday morning, at 10:00 AM, “Le Maioliche di Rudy” takes place in Cotroceni, an Italian-themed fair dedicated to decorative objects, colors and small weekend pleasures. Also on Saturday, at 10:00 AM, the Calea Victoriei Foundation offers a guided tour of Elisabeta Palace. The architecture of the palace combines Moorish-inspired elements with the Brâncovenesc style, giving it a distinctive character among Bucharest’s palaces. 

For children, MARe organizes on Saturday, at 12:00 PM, the “Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary Stories” workshop. Participants are invited to observe and discuss the works in the exhibition, and then use unexpected objects and materials for their own creations. On Sunday, also at 12:00 PM, the “Messages in Colors” workshop takes place, through which children discover that art can be not only beautiful, but also transformed into an object with a practical function. 

On Sunday morning, at 10:30 AM, there is also the guided tour for teenagers, “Discover Calea Victoriei”. The concept begins with the idea of an imaginary journey through Bucharest around 1900, with palaces, cafés, elegant shops, parties and society stories.

Parties and unusual events during the weekend evenings

For those who want to continue having fun after concerts or performances, the party program is very diverse. On Friday, August 28, nJOY Garden & Club organizes “Michael Jackson Day”, a tribute event dedicated to one of the most influential artists in pop music. The evening continues at Platforma Wolff, where “Flipside 4 Years Anniversary” features DMX Krew, together with George Heerd, Barbu and Twodoor. 

At naive, “Metamorphosis” begins with dinner and live music at 8:00 PM and then gradually changes its rhythm as the night unfolds. At Apollo111 Barul & Terasa, “Pillow Talk” brings Andrei Cristea and Alduts Sherdley to the venue on Friday evening, in a program aimed at lovers of R&B and urban music. 

On Saturday, the retro atmosphere returns to B52 The Club, where “Party Like in the ’90s” begins at 9:00 PM. At Platforma Wolff, from 10:00 PM, “PW x TRAILS” is scheduled, with Nicolas Lutz and Paul Popa. On the same evening, “Ephemeral” takes place at naive, while Apollo111 hosts both “Fast Delivery”, with Mihnea Ghiza, Crina Beju and Tudor Opriș, and “Dirty Disco”, with Eugen Rădescu. 

A special event is INKORA – Live Tattoo Art & Music Festival, which takes place for three days at Berăria H, beginning on Friday, August 28, at 12:00 PM. According to the program, hundreds of tattoo artists from Romania and abroad participate in the event, presenting various styles and designs. 

On Sunday, the weekend ends in a more relaxed atmosphere with “Casual Chess by Peono Chess Club”, at Control Club, from 7:00 PM. The event invites participants to an evening of chess and socializing around the game boards.
