The Old Center, located in the heart of Bucharest, is a neighborhood full of history and charm. Dating back to the 15th century, this area was originally an important commercial center, where craftsmen and merchants from all over Europe plied their trade. The narrow, cobbled streets, named after the guilds and craftsmen who occupied them (such as Blănari Street, Șelari Street, Covaci Street, Lipscani Street - named after the lipscan, a merchant who sold goods brought from Leipzig, the ancient name of the present-day city of Leipzig, to the Romanian markets), still retain the atmosphere of yesteryear, offering a window into Bucharest's medieval past.

After going through a period of decline during the communist regime, the Old Center has re-emerged as a main attraction for Bucharest's residents and tourists alike. The restoration of old buildings and the addition of modern spaces have brought a new energy to the neighborhood, transforming it into a lively and active area. Today, the Old Center is famous for its elegant restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques, all set in a diverse architectural decor that combines Baroque, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles, offering a unique and dynamic atmosphere.

If you come here, we recommend you don't miss the Macca Villacrosse Passage or the Valley of the Kings, one of the most fascinating places in Bucharest; here, East and West join hands in a harmonious dance, creating the kingdom of hookahs.

Apart from its entertainment and socializing, the Old Town is also an important cultural center. Museums, art galleries and theaters located in this district contribute to the city's cultural richness. Here you can find the Curtea Veche (Bucharest's oldest monument), Manuc's Inn, the Stavropoleos and St. Anton churches, as well as numerous other old buildings declared historical monuments. Various cultural events and festivals also take place regularly, bringing together artists and audiences from different fields.

This combination of history, culture and modernity makes the Old Center an essential place for anyone wishing to understand the spirit and evolution of Bucharest.
