Bulandra Theatre - Toma Caragiu Hall

Bulandra Theatre, officially known as the Municipal Theater "Lucia Sturdza Bulandra", is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Bucharest, with a long history of promoting high quality theater art. Founded in 1947 as the Municipal Theater, it was initially directed by the renowned actress Lucia Sturdza-Bulandra, whose name it bears today. 

Over the years, the Bulandra Theatre has been under the direction of such notable personalities as the director and actor Liviu Ciulei, who was director from 1963 to 1972. Under his guidance, the theatre experienced a period of artistic flourishing, with innovative productions and international recognition. 

The Bulandra Theatre currently has two theaters:

  1.     Liviu Ciulei Hall (Izvor): located near the Dâmbovița River, not far from the south-west corner of the Císmigiu Gardens, this hall was renovated in 2002 and serves as the theater's main headquarters.
  2.     Toma Caragiu Hall : Located next to the Icoanei Gardens, about half a kilometer southeast of Roman Square, this hall was renovated in 2003 and bears the name of another prominent actor of the Romanian stage.

The Bulandra Theatre has been a member of the Union of European Theatres since 1991, underlining its commitment to artistic excellence and international collaboration.
