The Dimitrie Brandza Botanical Garden is a special place that has been offering visitors a fascinating foray into the world of plants for more than 160 years. Founded in 1860 by Carol Davila and named in honor of the Romanian botanist Dimitrie Brandza, the Botanical Garden is home to over 10,000 species of plants from diverse geographical areas.
The plant diversity is organized into thematic sectors, each with its own characteristics and beauty. Among the most popular sectors are the Rainforest, Grandma's Garden, Herbarium and Tropical Greenhouse. The Greenhouse, in particular, attracts visitors with exotic plants such as orchids, bromeliads and tree ferns, creating a lush landscape. In addition, the autochthonous plants section showcases Romania's specific flora, giving a comprehensive insight into local biodiversity.
In addition to the impressive plant collections, the Botanical Garden is also home to the Botanical Museum, which exhibits a variety of specimens, including rare and endemic plants. This museum serves as an essential educational tool, providing information on the evolution of plants, their ecology and the importance of conserving biodiversity. The garden also organizes various thematic events and exhibitions to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and to inspire the next generations of botanists and ecologists.
