There isn't a Bucharest resident you ask about the capital's museums who doesn't mention the Grigore Antipa Museum. And with good reason: it is one of the most prestigious museums in Romania and Eastern Europe, currently housing over 2 million exhibits.

Founded in 1834 and named after the famous Romanian biologist Grigore Antipa, the museum near Herăstrău was renovated relatively recently, between 2009 and 2011, introducing innovative and interactive technologies, during which time the exhibitions were also significantly modernized.

The Grigore Antipa National Museum of History - as it is officially known - is home to an impressive collection of zoological, paleontological, mineralogical and anthropological specimens. The permanent exhibitions are organized thematically, offering a fascinating journey through the different ecosystems of Romania and the world. Detailed diagrams and life-size models of animals are complemented by educational information designed to increase visitors' understanding and appreciation of the natural world. A major highlight is the diorama showing the fauna of the Danube Delta, rendered in a captivating and realistic way. The fossil and mineral collections also bring the Earth's geological past to life, providing an insight into the evolution of life.

In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the Antipa Museum also hosts numerous temporary exhibitions and educational events. Interactive workshops, lectures and scientific presentations aim to inspire and educate audiences of all ages. The museum actively collaborates with the academic community and participates in international research projects, strengthening its role as a center of excellence in the natural sciences. The Grigore Antipa Museum is thus not only a place to visit, but also a dynamic hub of scientific knowledge and discovery.
