Piața 1 Mai, also known as Chibrit Market, is one of the most compact and practical markets in the northern part of the city. It’s not big, but it makes up for it with solid organization and a diverse selection: vegetables, meat, dairy, free-range eggs, and a few imported items. This isn’t a market for ambiance – it’s for function: you come, shop, and go. The crowd is mixed – local retirees, young professionals from nearby apartment blocks, and corporate workers dropping in from the metro. Prices are reasonable for the 1 Mai area, and the high product turnover suggests steady demand.

Access: At the intersection of Calea Griviței and Bd. Ion Mihalache, right by 1 Mai metro station. Also reachable by tram 24 or buses 105 and 282.
