Domnița Bălașa Church is a discreet yet deeply significant landmark, located in Sector 4, near Unirii Square, on the right bank of the Dâmbovița River. Built between 1881 and 1885 in a Neo-Romantic style with Neo-Byzantine influences, the current church is the sixth structure raised on this site in memory of Princess Bălașa, daughter of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu. Its interior stands out through paintings created by Viennese artists and funerary monuments dedicated to the founder and other members of the Brâncoveanu family.
The architecture, designed by Alexandru Orăscu, along with Carol Benesch and Friedrich Hartmann, brings a Western elegance to a profoundly Orthodox space. The church was restored and reconsecrated in 1994, and underwent a major renovation between 2018 and 2022, supported by European funds. It is a place filled with memory, elegance, and spiritual peace, offering visitors a different face of Bucharest—one shaped by devotion and refined feminine legacy.
