  • LOCATION

Școala Gimnazială Nr. 309, recently also known as “Obama School,” is located in Sector 6 of Bucharest, on Moinești Street no. 9. Founded in 1986, the school offers both primary and lower secondary education, with a current enrollment of 681 students across 31 classes. The teaching staff consists of 45 educators, and the institution is currently undergoing extensive renovation.

In 2024, the average score at the National Evaluation was 6.64, with 6.93 in Romanian and 6.34 in Mathematics, based on results from 80 students. The academic performance is moderate but steady, reflecting the profile of a neighborhood school serving a diverse urban community.

While the main building is under renovation, classes have been temporarily relocated to Intrarea Hanul Ancuței no. 12. The modernization project, expected to be completed by autumn 2025, includes the installation of solar panels, mechanical ventilation, CO₂ sensors for classroom air quality, and new furniture throughout. The school is already equipped with science and IT labs, a gymnasium, a medical office, and a counseling center.

A key strength is the free after-school program for grades prep through 4, where children are supervised and supported in completing homework. In addition, all students receive a free hot lunch each day as part of the national “Healthy Meal” program, fully implemented at this school.

While the average exam scores may not yet set it apart, Școala 309 is clearly heading in a promising direction: investment in infrastructure, focus on student well-being, and meaningful academic support suggest a school in transformation — and one to watch.
