Sandwich Gallery

By Bucharest Team

  • LOCATION

Sandwich Gallery is a collective-run art space founded in 2017, transforming a narrow in-between area (roughly 11 square meters) tucked between two utility buildings into a vibrant incubator for site-specific and experimental installations. Located at 13 Pechea Street in Sector 1, the gallery's unconventional dimensions—about 1.5 meters by 8 meters—have become its signature, amplifying the conceptual and visual impact of the artworks shown. It was initiated by artists including Alexandru Niculescu, Daniela Pălimariu, and Cristian Răduță, and continues to challenge the conventions of how art interacts with urban space.

The program supports both Romanian and international artists, and Sandwich has gained visibility at major fairs like LISTE Basel, ART021 Shanghai, and Viennacontemporary. The space is known for fostering performative and curatorial experiments, encouraging the audience to become part of the artistic process. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, yet intellectually and socially engaged. The gallery’s Sandwich Neurohope location (Pechea 13) is open Wednesday to Friday from 12:00 to 17:00, while its other spaces are accessible by appointment only.

How to get there:
Sandwich Neurohope is located at 13 Pechea Street, in Sector 1, in the northern part of Bucharest, between the Grivița and Victoriei neighborhoods. The easiest way is to take the metro to Piața Victoriei (lines M1 or M2), then hop on bus 131 or 182 toward the Combinatul Fondului Plastic area and get off at a nearby stop. From there, it’s a short walk to Pechea Street. Alternatively, from Piața Romană, you can take tram 1, get off in the Grivița area, and walk around 10–12 minutes to reach the gallery. It’s a quieter part of town, perfect for a more offbeat, immersive art experience.
