His siblings chose very different professions. Puiu Păunescu became a diplomat and served as Romania’s ambassador to Vienna. Constantin Păunescu pursued a career in medicine, becoming a doctor and professor, as well as head of the cardiology clinic at Colțea Hospital. Nelu Păunescu chose a military career and became an aviation officer, while the family was completed by Zoia Păunescu.

In this context, Nucu Păunescu chose a different path. Instead of pursuing a profession connected to the fields in which the other members of his family had made their mark, he was drawn to the world of performance. Theater would become his great passion and would establish, from an early age, the direction he would follow throughout his life.

Choosing Theater and Becoming an Actor

He chose to train for the profession and attended the Bucharest Conservatory of Dramatic Art, being listed as a graduate of the 1930 class. Theater was Nucu Păunescu’s first great passion and remained an important part of his artistic identity.
