On Wednesday, November 5, at Cărturești Verona Bookstore, Nemira Publishing House launched “Din Priviri” (Through Glances), a collection of essays and photographs signed by communication expert Mihaela Nicola. The author’s fifth title presents an original compilation of “chic texts and barefoot photographs”, crafted as a deeply personal journey through thoughts, moods, places, and emotions.

The images included in this volume were first featured in Nicola’s solo exhibition “Photographs That Never Made It to Instagram”, opened in 2021 at the Cornel Forea Galleries and curated by Damian Florea. The texts accompanying the photographs act as reflective adagio pieces, minimalist in tone, guiding the reader through revelations about secrets, marriage, bitter cherries, mathematics, geopolitics, and chocolate pastries.
With grace and humor, the author captures the ordinary moments that follow us inevitably, as well as the traits that make us unique. The red thread of the collection traces an unexpected, recurring character — a subtle rebellion against the self-centered imagery that dominates today’s social media landscape.

“Through this book, Mihaela Nicola claims a different kind of gaze — one freed from the temptation of the face and of perfection. Din Priviri continues and expands one of the author’s favorite themes, that of travel, blending irony and sarcasm with the tenderness of personal or seemingly personal reflections. Each text-thought becomes both a conclusion and an open gateway to reflection — a tireless search for meaning, which in today’s world constantly oscillates between reality and projection, between appearance and essence,” said Ana Lotts-Nicolau, General Manager of Nemira Publishing House.

Mihaela Nicola is the CEO of the communication group TheGroup, and author of the essay collections “Pe tocuri” (Nemira, 2007) and “Cu mănuși” (Humanitas, 2009). She is an astute observer of modern forms of public communication, in which the “influencing” phenomenon has become increasingly dominant.

“I see myself rather as an outfluencer,” Nicola said. “I like to assemble contexts of thought and image so that each reader can experience the revelation of being their own influencer.”

The launch of Din Priviri itself reflected the spirit of the book — an unconventional brunch event held in the bookstore, designed as an open conversation, an exchange of ideas, and a joyful rediscovery of the art of aphorism.
