Nine artists from Romania have taken part in two artistic residencies at a textile factory in Galați, working directly with production materials, unused stock and unfinished objects. The results of this process will be presented in Fabric Works, a contemporary art exhibition opening on October 10, 2026, at POINT in Bucharest.

Organised by Living Content, the exhibition explores the relationship between industrial production, textile materials and artistic practice. The project examines how materials left over from manufacturing processes can be transformed through artistic intervention and given new possibilities beyond their original purpose.

The opening takes place on Saturday, October 10, at 7 PM. The exhibition will run until November 8, 2026.

Nine artists and two residencies at a textile factory

Fabric Works brings together Iulia Toma, Aurora Király, Anca Dima, Loredana Ilie, Lea Rasovszky, Giulia Crețulescu, Otto Constantin, Thea Lazăr and STOL.

The project included two artistic residencies held at a textile factory in Galați. During these residencies, the participants worked directly with materials available at the factory, including unused stock and objects that had never reached their finished form.

Their artistic process involved selecting, transforming and reassembling these materials. Objects and resources originating from industrial production were transferred into a different context, where new possibilities for their use and interpretation could be explored.

The residencies form the starting point of the exhibition. The relationship between the artists, textile materials and the industrial environment is central to a project that brings contemporary artistic practices into direct contact with resources from the manufacturing process.

From industrial production to artistic practice

Fabric Works explores what happens when materials originally created for a specific industrial purpose become part of an artistic process.

Unused stock and unfinished objects, which belong to an established production system within the factory, are selected and transformed by the participating artists. In doing so, the materials move from an industrial environment into an artistic context.

The exhibition focuses on the relationship between materials, production and creative intervention. The transformation process is an important part of the project, alongside the exploration of the possibilities offered by the materials the artists encountered during their residencies.

Through this approach, Fabric Works draws attention to materials that have not been used for their original purpose and explores how they can become part of contemporary artistic practice.
