The Special Middle School for Students with Visual Impairments, located on 33 Austrului Street, Sector 2, Bucharest, is a public educational institution dedicated to children with visual disabilities. Founded in 1957, the school serves students aged 4 to 15, both from Bucharest and from other counties across Romania.

The school building spans five levels and offers:

  • 17 bright classrooms with adapted furniture and enhanced lighting systems
  • 8 therapy rooms, including for visual-perceptual education, Braille, spatial orientation and mobility, psychopedagogical counseling, and speech therapy
  • 2 physical therapy rooms for neuromotor rehabilitation and medical recovery
  • An IT lab equipped with speech synthesis software and Braille printers
  • A library with over 6,000 volumes in print, audio, and Braille formats
  • Science labs (physics, chemistry, biology)
  • STEAM and music classrooms
  • A multipurpose hall for performances, sports, and assemblies
  • A multisensory stimulation room
  • Outdoor spaces, including a sports field and playground
  • On-site medical offices staffed with pediatric and dental professionals

Students follow the national curriculum, adapted to their needs, supported by individualized intervention plans. The school provides integrated therapeutic education in the afternoon program and actively participates in international projects, including Erasmus+, along with a wide range of extracurricular activities.

For children coming from outside Bucharest, the school offers boarding facilities, ensuring safe accommodation and comprehensive care.
