“Constantin Păunescu” Special Secondary School, located in Sector 6 of Bucharest, on Aleea Istru no. 4, is one of the largest and best-equipped special education institutions in Romania. The school serves children with special educational needs, offering a full educational path from preschool to lower secondary, for students aged 3 to 18.
Currently, the school has 204 students across 26 classes. While it doesn’t offer after-school or extended-day programs, it compensates with a high level of individualized support, thanks to its multidisciplinary team and specialized facilities for therapy and recovery.
The building was completely modernized in February 2024 and now stands as a model for special education infrastructure in the capital. The facilities include dedicated preschool rooms, dormitories, a kitchen and dining area, and well-equipped classrooms tailored for both education and therapeutic activities. The school also provides 16 specialized therapy offices, a computer lab, a library, two medical rooms, two physiotherapy rooms, two sports halls, three outdoor sports courts, and a playground designed to support both motor and social development.
Occupational therapy is a key focus, supported by hands-on workshops in candle making, housekeeping, and daily living skills, aimed at fostering autonomy and practical abilities for life beyond school. Moreover, the school actively participates in Erasmus+ and eTwinning projects, signaling its commitment not only to local impact but also to international collaboration and inclusion.
With its comprehensive facilities and deeply human approach, “Constantin Păunescu” is more than just a school—it is a space of support, growth, and dignity for children and their families.
