Originally founded in 1954-1956 as "Mixed Secondary School No. 6 - Costeasca", the high school went through various transformations, becoming "Theoretical High School No. 6" between 1956 and 1972, then "Theoretical High School "Dumitru Petrescu" until 1976, followed by "Industrial High School "Dumitru Petrescu" until 1990, when it adopted its current name.
