The Bucharest School Inspectorate announced the mid-year break dates in early September: February 22-27, 2027. Bucharest students start the break on Monday, February 22, and return to class on Monday, March 1.

The date isn't chosen freely by the inspectorate. It comes from a system set out in Education Ministry Order no. 3,194/2026. The ministry opens a three-week window, from February 15 to March 7, 2027, and splits the country's 42 counties into three groups — A, B, C — each with its own week. Bucharest falls into Group B.

For families heading to the mountains, this matters: Group A counties, including Brașov and Prahova, take their break a week earlier, February 15-21. So the slopes in Prahova fill up with local kids right before the Bucharest crowd arrives, then thin out partway through the following week.

The rest of the 2026-2027 school year breaks

The school year started on Monday, September 7, even though official documents list September 1 as the administrative start date. Classes run in five modules, with four breaks shared by every county and one, the mid-year break, set locally.

• Fall break — Saturday, October 24 – Sunday, November 1, 2026. Back to class: Monday, November 2.
• Winter break — Wednesday, December 23, 2026 – Sunday, January 10, 2027. Back to class: Monday, January 11.
• Mid-year break (ski break) — Monday, February 22 – Saturday, February 27, 2027. Back to class: Monday, March 1.
• Spring break — Saturday, April 24 – Tuesday, May 4, 2027. Includes Orthodox Easter, on May 2. Back to class: Wednesday, May 5.
• Summer break — starts Saturday, June 19, 2027, after the last day of classes, Friday, June 18.

Besides the actual breaks, October 5, 2026 is International Education Day — a day off, but not part of any break.

Grade 8 and grade 12 students follow a different calendar: their classes end earlier, on June 11 and June 4, 2027 respectively, ahead of national exams.
