Spring once again brings spectacular events to Sector 6 of the Capital, and one of the most anticipated moments for urban sports enthusiasts is the return of the BCR Sport Arena Streetball competition in Drumul Taberei Park. Before the lake in the park is refilled and the leisure season officially begins, the area will become, for a few days, the center of urban basketball in Bucharest.
When BCR Sport Arena Streetball takes place in Drumul Taberei Park
The competition will transform the lake basin into a space dedicated to sport, energy, and entertainment, where athletes of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in matches, contests, and special activities. The event promises not only competition, but also a complete experience for Bucharest residents, with relaxation areas, a food court, and surprises prepared by the organizers.
Sector 6 City Hall has already announced the beginning of preparations for this edition, and the interest is high both among the players and among those who will come to support the participants or simply to enjoy the special atmosphere.
The BCR Sport Arena Streetball competition will take place during the period May 8–10, 2026, for three days dedicated entirely to sports and outdoor activities. The chosen location remains a spectacular one and already known to the public: the lake basin in Drumul Taberei Park.
Before the opening of the leisure season and before the lake is filled again with water, this area is transformed into a multifunctional space, perfect for organizing large-scale sports events. Thus, participants will have the opportunity to play and watch matches in a special setting, different from classic basketball courts.
Sector 6 City Hall informed as early as April 23 that workers had started preparations for the installation of the courts and the arrangement of the entire area. The organizers aim for everything to be prepared to the best standards for one of the most important streetball competitions in the Capital.
The event is intended for athletes of all ages, which means that both children, teenagers, and adults passionate about street basketball will be able to demonstrate their talent on the court.
What the competition area will look like
BCR Sport Arena Streetball does not mean only a few basketball courts, but a true sports festival organized on an impressive area of 2,500 square meters. In this area, more than 20 spaces dedicated to sports and recreational activities will be arranged.
The lake basin in Drumul Taberei Park will practically become a temporary urban complex, where sport will be the central element. The courts will be installed especially for the competition, and the entire infrastructure is designed so that both participants and spectators can enjoy a complete experience.
In addition to the area intended for matches, the organizers are preparing stands for spectators, so that supporters can comfortably watch all the confrontations. The specific streetball atmosphere, with music, energy, and involved public, will transform the event into a true urban show.
There will also be a food court area here, where Bucharest residents will be able to find various dishes offered by vendors. Thus, the event becomes attractive not only for athletes, but also for families, groups of friends, or visitors who simply want to spend time in the park.
The organizers have also announced other special surprises, which makes the 2026 edition one of the most anticipated of recent years.
When registrations begin for participants
For those who want to enter the competition and not only watch from the stands, there is already an important date to remember: registrations begin on Monday, May 4, at 3:00 PM.
Participants must pay attention to the official opening of registrations, because competitions of this type usually attract a large number of teams and players. Streetball is extremely popular in Bucharest, and the available places fill up quickly, especially within such a well-known event.
Being a competition dedicated to several age categories, it is expected that the interest will be high both among juniors and experienced players. The competitive but relaxed atmosphere, specific to street basketball, attracts more and more participants every year.
For many young athletes, BCR Sport Arena Streetball represents not only a competition, but also an opportunity for affirmation, socialization, and connection with the community of urban basketball enthusiasts.
What happens after the competition: the lake is refilled and the leisure season begins
One of the best pieces of news for the residents of Sector 6 is the fact that, immediately after the end of the competition, the lake in Drumul Taberei Park will be refilled with water, thus marking the official beginning of the leisure season.
This stage is awaited every year by Bucharest residents who use the park for relaxation and outdoor walks. Once the water returns to the lake, people will again be able to rent boats and pedal boats for recreational rides.
Drumul Taberei Park has become in recent years one of the most popular green spaces in Sector 6, and the lake represents one of the main points of attraction. The possibility of spending time on the water transforms the area into a favorite place both for families and for couples or groups of friends.
Thus, BCR Sport Arena Streetball practically marks the transition between the season of sports events and the beginning of the period dedicated to relaxation and leisure activities.
West Side Flower Fest returns in June
After the sports event in May, Drumul Taberei Park will host another important event: West Side Flower Fest, now at its fourth edition.
The flower festival will take place during June 5–7, 2026 and also promises a spectacular atmosphere and a large attendance. Sector 6 City Hall has already chosen the vendors who will take part in this edition.
The list of participants is impressive: 20 flower producers, 33 food traders, and 60 vendors with artisanal and handmade products. The interest was very high, given that no fewer than 92 food traders and 179 participants from the non-food area applied to be present at the festival.
This selection shows how popular the event has become in Bucharest and how much traders want to be part of one of the most beloved events dedicated to spring and flowers.
The 2026 theme: “Origins – The Garden of Regions and of the Craftsman”
This year’s edition of West Side Flower Fest has a special theme: “Origins – The Garden of Regions and of the Craftsman,” a concept that emphasizes Romanian traditions, local identity, and the beauty of crafts from different areas of the country.
Students from landscaping and horticulture faculties in Romania will create 14 thematic gardens inspired by the traditions and crafts of the historical regions. These arrangements will transform the park into a true visual and cultural route, where flowers will combine with heritage elements and regional symbols.
The organizers are also preparing artistic moments, spectacular floral installations, but also workshops for children and adults. The festival will not be only a floral exhibition, but a complex experience, in which the public will be able to actively participate in various creative activities.
For families, this type of event represents one of the most attractive options for spending free time in Bucharest, especially during a period when parks become the main centers of urban social life.
Drumul Taberei Park, the center of major events in Sector 6
In recent years, Drumul Taberei Park has transformed into a true center of major events organized in Sector 6. From sports competitions and flower festivals, to thematic fairs and activities for families, this green space has become one of the most active areas of the Capital.
BCR Sport Arena Streetball and West Side Flower Fest confirm this direction and show the strategy of the local administration to transform the park into a lively, dynamic, and attractive place for all age categories.
For Bucharest residents, May and the beginning of June will thus bring two important reasons to return to Drumul Taberei Park: first for sport and competition, then for flowers, relaxation, and shows.
Whether they choose to actively participate in the streetball matches, to watch the games from the stands, or to enjoy boat rides and the flower festival, the residents of the Capital will have a spring full of energy and special events in one of the most beloved parks in Bucharest.
