The Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB) opens on September 15 at the “Carol I” Central University Library. The event ends on September 21. The 15th edition brings together nearly two hundred poets from over 30 countries across four continents, offering the public a rich multicultural experience: public readings, exhibitions, conferences, performances, and musical moments — all under the sign of poetry as a form of living memory and active presence in the life of the city.

“Poetry is not a luxury, but a quiet necessity. In an age when meanings scatter easily, it remains an exercise in lucidity, in inner resilience, and at the same time an essential form of shared reflection and emotion. Over the years, the Bucharest International Poetry Festival has become not only the most important poetic event in Romania, but also a vibrant space for authentic encounters, where words rebuild bridges, awaken memories, and open paths to dialogue. This year’s edition brings to Bucharest numerous international guests, thanks to the generous support of partner cultural institutes and embassies. From all corners of the world, poets come not only to read, but to breathe together — and with them, so do we, the audience. For a few days, Bucharest becomes poetry,” said Ioan Cristescu, director of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, the festival’s organizer.

Over 60 events make up the architecture of the festival’s seven days, a program shaped over the last six months by the team at the National Museum of Romanian Literature together with project partners. The public will enjoy exhibitions by artists Neluş Oană, David Greenslade, and Andrei Pandea, as well as a variety of themed evenings — Georgian poetry, tributes to Andrei Bodiu – 60, Gheorghe Crăciun – 75, Virgil Tănase – 80, D. R. Popescu – 90, the Antim Ivireanul debate, a performance and slam poetry evening, erotic poetry, and “Poetry of Subcultures.” There will also be public readings by poets from Romania, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, book launches and presentations of international anthologies, as well as concerts and diverse recitals, from fado and jazz to classical and experimental music, featuring artists such as Mircea Tiberian, Nadia Trohin, Adrian Naidin, Cătălina Beţa & Albert Tajti, Jezebel, Axia Marinescu, Mircea Florian, and Mircea Rusu Band. Special events include the cherry tree planting ceremony in the “Tudor Arghezi Poetry Garden,” part of the international Bosques de la Poesia movement.

The opening ceremony will take place at the “Carol I” Central University Library on September 15 at 6:00 p.m., in the presence of important Romanian and international poets, and will feature an exceptional musical moment performed by the “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir.

Under the sign of intercultural dialogue and the celebration of poetry in all its forms, this year’s edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival will welcome authors from Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Kenya, Israel, Italy, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Republic of Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, the United States of America, Sweden, Hungary, Uruguay, alongside leading names in Romanian poetry.

Poetry lovers in the capital are invited to attend events within FIPB 2025 at well-known cultural venues in Bucharest: the “Carol I” Central University Library, the National Museum of Romanian Literature – Nicolae Creţulescu Street 8, the National Museum of Romanian Literature – Calea Griviţei 64–66, the “Tudor Arghezi” Memorial House, Cărtureşti Modul, ARCUB, Londohome, Kyralina Bookshop, the French Institute in Bucharest, the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest, KOG7 Gallery, as well as in major high schools.

The public has free access to all events of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival. The complete program of the project will soon be available on the official website: www.fipb.ro.
